Hi all. I am new to this forum, and was wondering if anyone could offer me advice.
I recently did an Introduction to reflexology course and was completely bowled over !! I now am keen to train in this field. I have been looking into diploma courses, but frankly I dont know where to start!!!
Which training is considered the most thorough? IFR itec, vtct..etc? they alll seem to vary in course content, depending on the college the cost seems to vary quite a bit too, its its better to do a course with integrated A&P or better to do A&P seperately? If I am going to invest my time and money into prusuing a new direction, I just want to do it the right way? I live in Kent can anyone recommend a particular college/ school?? Thank you all in advance for your replies:o

Hi ya beanie

That is a hard one to answer as whatever I say someone will complain!

Probably the best option is an AoR accredited school which uses the ABC exam board. But to be honest a course is usually as good as the tutor who runs it, and the student who puts the time and effort in. One thing to look for is a course that gets you membership of an organisation which belongs to the Reflexology Forum. All the types of courses you mention will do this.

As for A&P, it would be nicer to do a seperate course. Some reflexology courses are more A&P specific to this therapy. The problem may be that it might not be robust enough for massage therapies, if you ever went in the direction in the future. It can be a bit of a minefield. Nothing wrong in studying twice, as there is so much to learn.

Whatever you do, work hard and enjoy it. Studying shouldn't be a chore as it will end up being a bore!

Another fact about reflexology training is that whatever diploma course you choice, it's a start of a journey, not the end. Post-grad/CPD study is vital for the reflexologist.

Since I'm based in Cornwall I can't recommend a school, sorry. I'm sure other HP'ers can help.

Try:

Best Wishes

Hi there, I'm in Kent too and finished my ITEC course in May. I did it through Kent Adult Education. I don't know whereabouts you are but I know they run quite a few around the county.

I had (thankfully) already done my A & P the previous year when I did Holistic Massage (not with Adult Ed, but with a private college who I wouldn't return to or recommend!) I agree that it would be better to do your A & P seperately, if only when considering the work load - I know I wouldn't have been able to manage Reflex and the A & P at the same time!

I don't know about the AOR courses etc, although sometimes I feel that the ITEC is quite basic and I need more studying to really gain confidence.

Let me know how you get on

Rachel

Hi trinabeanbag

I'd just like to say that I totaly agree with Reki Pixie - the AoR are definitley the best, and they have 3 schools in Kent, so hopefully will be one near you.

Also, because the AoR is regarded as the best by all the other associations - you don't have to re-train with A&P for anyone else (ie ITEC or VTCT) if you want to go on to massage or another therapy

thanks for that, but what about IFR courses ? those seem to appeal most, i intend to eventually do aromatherapy & massage too so I must make sure that the a & p part is widely recognised
