Hi I'm new to the forum and have enjoyed reading the posts. I'm taking a
reflexology course and am feeling a bit lost already. Can anybody tell me if I'm on the right track with my homework.

What does holistic and homeostasis mean.

Holistic - treating the whole body
Homeostasis - a state of balance within the body.

If anyone can let me know if this is correct it would be great.

thank you

Hi Paddington!

Yes you are on the right track! It's very daunting when you first start, I did ITEC Holistic massage last year, I hadn't studied for years and was really worried at first but I really enjoyed it even though there was a lot of work! I am doing reflexology this year too and it looks like it will be a lot of work as well especially the case studies!

My advice would be keep on top of the homework and practice practice practice and you'll not go far wrong!

I hope you really enjoy your course and remember there are lots of friendly, knowledgeable people on HP to help out!

Hi ya Pad

Yes you are correct. But I would say that the holistic approach takes into account the physical, psychological, spiritual, environmental and sociological aspects of our being. Others may use different terms but it adds up to the same thing.

Cheers

Hi Paddington,

Hope you enjoy the reflex course...I just passed ITEC reflex (and also Holstic massage), was hard work, but worth it. Definitely keep on top of the homeworks, there's a lot to learn!!

What book are you using? There should be details in there on Homeostasis, holistic approach etc. Or can Google therms like that and get pages and pages of info!

I had to do a report for my ITEC Massage (so it was geared towards that!), a bit of it read:
The word Holistic is derived from a Greek term ‘Holos’ which means ‘whole’. A holistic massage aims to treat the whole person, relaxing the muscles, calming the emotions, improving circulation, boosting the immune system, lifting the spirit and balancing the energy. Hence, it affects all of the body’s systems, either soothing or stimulating, to encourage healing and restoring a state of balance or ‘homeostasis’.
