Hi there all,
Dont know if you can help me on this one in here as its acupressure query
My question is what should a therapist warn a patient about before starting a treatment, explain..............
I know that the symptoms may increase after the first stimulation, but this is an indication that the treatment is working and the body is throwing off the toxins. I dont know how to answer this one as there are a few I am missing and dont wanna flunk this answer as it is probably one of the simplest ones.....I dont think its there for me to cover contradigtions ect (spelling eeep) lol
Hope someone can help me , i am having a brain dead day once again:(
RE: query once again
That's pretty much it.
They need to know:
What you will be doing, what areas you will treat.
That the treatment will be a complete one.
That feedback is important, if there is something they are uncomfortable with they should tell you.
If they are contraindicated in any way that you will amend the treatment accordingly.
Following the treatment there will be toxins rushing about.. if they get a headache or feel muscular tension coming on, drink more water. Don't overeat, don't drink alcohol, don't overdo it, rest if you feel the need.
They may get any of the following (not a complete list) - May have headaches, aching, pains, feel great, increased suppleness in joints, tiredness, increased / decreased energy, need to urinate more often.. etc etc
The negative effects will ease after 12-24 hours so don't worry overly.
The warnings are done so that communication is clear and to build a relationship with the client - to build trust, increase relaxation and also to prepare them for any adverse contra-action which may take place. This is so alarm isn't caused.
Um lunchtime almost over, gonna have to cut this waffle short! Hope this helps!
RE: query once again
Hi there,
Thanks again Gussie lol you never waffle far from it bud your a true star I say with the help you have given me .......
I put one in the acupressure sector yesterday about one thing contradicting another to check before I answered it but I have not had much back on it.
A book I have the covers all acupressure points ect in the pregnancy section states 'As well as adding the following points, make sure a client is advised to sit or lie with legs raised several times during the day. Points that can be stimulated are Stomach 36 or Liver 3. These points will increase circulation in the legs and relieves tiredness.' This is for aching legs in a pregnant woman.
My question for the lesson is 'which points would you use to treat aching legs in a pregnant woman?' and to be honest i was unsure wether it was trick question and the answer would be that you could not treat the client regarding warnings ect............
