I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this so will post it in the learning bit too but I've been thinking about my future (I'm 28) been married for 1 year, always worked in an office and been quite career minded but for the last 6-12 months I've been thinking about having kids....

Now we can't afford to have them for a while yet but I know I don't want to go back to work after having them as I want to spend as much time with them as possible but this is where I need your help... not many people can afford to do this and I'm one of them, so what I would like to do is start learning 1 or 2 therapies to earn me abit of extra money as I so enjoy them.

So my question is, what is best to start off with.... Reflexology is quite complex and I get the feeling you should really learn about anatomy first??? Well anyway any thoughts would be good.

Thanks for reading this

Gail

RE: Learning about therapies

hi gail,

i see you had your first reflexology session and thats a good way to start... to see what YOU like and can imagine giving.

the more therapies you do know, the more work you can hope to get (although its a tough old world out there with a lot of competition... dont be put off though!).

as for which to do first... that is so a matter of choice. when i trained with ITEC, we had to do A & P and body massage as a pre requisite to anything else.

now though, the A & P is separate, so you could do that + reflexology, if you didnt fancy massage. having said that, i dont regret having done the massage (i wanted to do reflex most) because its then easy to springboard off to aromatherapy, sports therapy, Indian Head etc etc! thats ITEC though.

i dont know what say VTCT, AoR, etc etc want but you will need to do some kind of A & P either first or alongside. dont worry about it though... if you are keen and the interest is there, its not so bad to get to grips with.

RE: Learning about therapies

So where do you think I should start looking?

I work Mon-Fri 8:30am-6pm and have a puppy and 2 chinchilla's to spend time with so time is quite limited but I don't want to do home studies....

Thanks

Gail

RE: Learning about therapies

I found EFT & EmoTrance very cost effective to learn, and easy to work with. Clients can be helped via the telephone, so no need to have babysitters etc. Hynpotherapy is great if you want to do smoking and weight loss as you dont necessarily have to learn the ins and outs of it for these specific things. (There are a few hypno trainings that are just for these.) if you want to go into the hypnotherapy side, a lot is reading, so if you are pregnant, you can learn without having to travel to a classroom maybe as much as something like massage where there is more hands on training.

Hope you find something that fits your way of life.

hi gail,

many colleges run evening courses of 2 - 2.5 hours a session, generally staring about 7 or so. do you get a local adult education magazine every now and then? if you dont, your local library should have one.

or do a look up on google.
