Hi All,

So I received this email today from Kevala

It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce that Complementary Health Education Ltd t/as the Kevala Centre has ceased trading with effect from today.

The current exceptionally difficult trading conditions have meant that the company is no longer in a position to meet any further liabilities.

Ruth Gilmore

Have tried calling them but it just refers you to the website which has the same message. I am so upset I was supposed to complete my Aromatherapy diploma in April and I am also studying two other courses with them. I have spent £1000's over and wasted three years of my life and I have no idea where this leaves me. I dont think I can afford to start again, and now do not what to do or where I stand?

Has anyone else been affected by this? Can anyone offer any advice?

Kevala

I had the email too and was terribly sad to have received it. I had no idea they were having financial troubles. Very sad. 🙁

Laura, I really feel for you. I am so sorry to hear that you are in the middle of courses with them. Do you have a direct number for any of your tutors - perhaps you could give them a call and have a chat to them?

Hi Laura,
im really sorry to hear that. The only bit of advice I can offer is for you to try to find out who the administrators are. As a ltd company, if they go bust, they usually have an administrator appointed, you may get some money back through them.

I hope you manage to get it sorted.

best wishes

Richard

Don't be so quick to feel so sorry.

I do not know who the directors of this company are but... be assured...as a ltd company they can easily walk away with no expense to themselves (and with your money)....and start up tomorrow under another name.

As for their "tutors", I am sure that many have not been paid for a few months and will have no wish to spend any of their time speaking to "students" of kevela.

The company (i.e. the directors, will, I am sure have been taking peoples money in order to pay off creditors until that email was sent out).

I wouldn't be at all surprised if, in the next few months, you receive emails asking you to enrol in a new course.

I would find out who the people are behind these courses before spending any more money.

Wise up a bit....this is all about money.....and they have yours!!!

I'm in the same boat - I submitted my final exam for the Herbal Advisor course just after Christmas, and had spent all of last year doing their course. I've no idea if the exam will be marked and whether I'll get my diploma.

I'm feeling annoyed that I've wasted a whole year and have nothing to show for it!

I've emailed them this morning so I'll see if they respond.:(

Think it may be a different company then, as these were originally based in Torquay and transfered to Cardiff in August 07.

I found them for you!

Name & Registered Office:
COMPLEMENTARY HEALTH EDUCATION LIMITED
RICHMOND HOUSE
3 HERBERT TERRACE
PENARTH
CARDIFF
CF64 2AH
Company No. 04332039

I found the address and company number in some blurb here: [DLMURL] http://www.eclipse.co.uk/iys/ [/DLMURL]

Pretty sure this is them and you can look up more info on Companies House website by entering their company number. It says on the Companies House website that their status is 'active' and it does not say they have gone into liquidation?

Hope this helps.
Oh, there was also a student forum for Kevala students, if you google kevala it is the second link down and if the site is still up and running, I'd imagine there may be a lot of Kevala students discussing this there right now.

did any of you pay your fees via credit card? If you did, you would be able to claim it back.

I think it is terrible what has happened and would like to help.

Just thinking of a way to help out, if people have almost completed work its just a matter of getting the work checked over, practical skills assessed and certificates awarded.

If I have have courses running that correspond, I would be happy to look over work and assess it. If you are willing to travel to me, I will try and help in anyway.

Likewise with us, if any student is affected and our courses are similar then please feel free to get in touch, I am sure we can sort something out to make the most of a bad situation here. We have tutors nationwide and both practical and home study courses. If any student takes a look and feels as if we can be of some use then please get in touch with the contact details on the site.

Yoga teacher training

I'm in the same boat, almost completed the yoga teacher training course - doing well, Kevala took my last payment 14 January so have all the money for the course and in return I have nothing.

I have tried calling, emailing etc but no response. I'd aimed to finish by the Spring. It looks as though I may be starting again.

It really is such a shame. I had one lady ring me today, but unfortunately couldn't help as I don't do yoga.

Please, feel free to ring/email or pm me and let me know what course you are doing. If its holistics, then chances are, between myself and isis we can help out.

Isn't it a shame that when you offer help its construed as 'promoting yourself' by the moderating team.

I really think nowadays that the story of the good samaritan just wouldn't survive, as whenever you offer to do something out of the goodness of your heart, its looked at in the wrong way.

I really worry for some people, I really do.

Hello 🙂

Seeing the explanation from Bannick, I can understand the reasoning behind why the post was removed.

However, I really do want to say though.... When I read your message and the other offer of help, I did genuinely think how wonderful it was 🙂
I hope that something can be sorted out off board perhaps, and Laura gets her qualifications sorted, one way or another.
Good luck Laura

We have asked that the offers of help be made privately, off-forum, so as to protect the interests of those who pay to advertise on Healthypages and thus provide valuable revenue towards running the site. Hence the guidelines in place are in accordance with the site owner's wishes and not to deter such kind offers of help, but to keep commercial interests off the discussion forums.

Hoping everyone who is affected by Kevala's trading cessation will receive appropriate assistance through the PM/emailing systems, from those able to offer their services at this difficult time.

Kind wishes

I've tried calling them, emailing. Can't find any contact details for Complementary Health Education apart from a phone number which doesn't seem to work. I paid all of my money have only done 2 modules!! Not impressed.

Has anyone had any response yet. I did get an email from one of the tutors offering to continue the course, but as soon as she mentioned extra fees I was suspicious. I realise it might be a genuine offer of help but don't really trust it.

you can usually do this by looking at the insolvency website, do a search for their company, or use companies house, they usually charge £1 per document search.

It is unlikely that you will be able to contact a Director directly.

This is a bit harsh - I bet they would help if they are able - they will have got to know the students and am sure they would want them to have been able to complete their courses.

I hope you all get to follow your dreams...

Companies House Website

I've had a look on here, and according to them the parent company, Complementary Health Education Ltd, are still active. I searched google with the address, found a telephone number which turned out to be for a different company in the same building, but thought I was onto something. Thought I might be able to get a contact number for them. I rang this number and it turned out to be an accountants, actually the accountants for Complementary Health Education Ltd. I asked if they had a contact number for them and as soon as I said that I had been studying with Kevala and would like to speak to someone in the company the woman got very cagey and just said they couldn't give any details and hung up.

I'm getting the impression that all is not what it seems.

I'm going to write a letter, talk to citizens advice and trading standards. As a last resort I'm going to talk to my local paper, they'll publish anything, and it might help get my money back.

Kevala

Hi, I'm new to these boards but found them after looking for info on Kevala as I am also a student who has lost all my money. I have had no success in contacting them either and Companies House says they are still active as a company. However after doing another search on the internet this morning I found a website called the Natural Healthcare College which is under construction and with a statement saying that they will be taking on any existing Kevala students to enable them to finish their studies. On the search page it said they would be emailing existing students in due course. The link to the website is . I cant afford to pay for my aromatherapy course again so I hope they wont want anymore fees. If anyone else has any other info. let me know please, good luck.

I hate the programme with a passion, but would it be worth contacting Watchdog? They've been taking people's money as late on as 14 January, when they must have known they were going to cease trading. So they've taken your money but not delivered the goods. That's theft in my eyes.

Good spot Jabba - I was wondering if it was somebody jumping on the bandwagon and then told myself I was being paranoid - Watching too much Watchdog lately!

I actually think that if enough people contact somebody like Watchdog, they probably have a much better chance of getting something sorted out than what an individual can do. Actually, I think that is such a good idea, here is the link:

Certainly sounds like it. That's one way to get rid of creditors.

The website is a bit 'tenuous' to say the least - no address etc. No sign of the college name in Companies House (yet)......

I think contacting watchdog is a good idea. Like I've already said, I'm contacting my local newspaper. Cardiff isn't that far from me so I should see something come out of it.

I think the whole thing sounds hugely dodgy. Although I'm slightly confused as to why I got an email 2 days before they went bust asking for my coursework.
