anything that will get people laughing

1) get into groups with people who are same sign as you

2) get into group with people same eye colour as you

3) if you do a name round, also ask them to say what they had for breakfast

4) I was recently assisting on a Clean Language course and we were asked to stand in a horseshoe shape, and place ourselves to how close we lived to the venue.

This worked as people had come from across UK and some had come from further afield

I ask people to say what they want to get from the course. Sometimes, if I get about 10 or so, I pair them up and get them to interview each other with 4 questions - who are you? where are you from? what do they want from the course? and another one which sometimes is "tell me something about you that isn't obvious from looking at you". That's quite an icebreaker in itself!

Oh and don't worry about the microteaches - they're not a patch on having to teach your first 6 hour course...
