Hi !!
Im starting an APNT diploma in Sports massage at the end of this month with Essentials for Health at St Thomas' Hospital in London - I just wanted a bit of feedback on the course from anyone that might've already done it.

Thanks in advance !!!!

Sports Massage and the GCMT

The General Council for Massage Therapy has set standards for Sports Massage Training, plus there are National Occupational Framework QCA recognised standards.
APNT is a member of the GCMT, but, their courses are not NOF, QCA recognised. Therefore the Sports Massage Association does not recognise APNT courses for membership.
By comparison, Active IQ accredit a QCA recognised level 3 course, and are recognised by CMA, FHT, GCMT and Sports Massage Association for memberships. Recently I have redesigned my Sports Massage Course to fit with the Active IQ syllabus, and QCA recognised course at my Academy of Sport Therapy & Bodywork. I suggest that folk choosing to train in sports massage look for the QCA sign on course providers websites, and also whether the courses are GCMT recognised, and Sports Massage Association recognised.

I find this all SO confusing. I've read threads about all this in the past and am still none the wiser. There seems to be a lot of "oneupmanship" going on and as there is no definitive regulatory body [correct me if i'm wrong] I understand that an APNT Diploma means you will be able to practise as a sports massage therapist.

Sonji I'd suggest that if you have any concerns regarding your qualification you contact APNT and Gill Tree at Essentials directly - they may be able to guide you / reassure you about what this may or may not mean for you in the future.

I did the APNT course through Essentials three years ago and found it to be excellent. We were taught above and beyond the syllabus. I'm not sure the same tutors are around, so that may make it a slightly different experience. Sonji - Did you also do your Holistic Course through Essentials?

I know someone who trained with APNT and has been very successful with the sports massage. She thoroughly rates the course.
