RE: inteligent design
A long time ago in another universe, when I was 17, I read "Creative Evolution" by Henri Bergsson, published in 1908 I think I recall. I've found myself holding to his view to this day. That evolution is indeed led by some form of "Mind", but further, that its object is the inserting of consciousness into matter. All else then follows: we need a brain and nervous system for consciousness (in matter) and everything else - hands, legs, heart, the lot, is there to support the conscious being in survival and movement. Plants we could see in this scheme as being part of a food chain - for us.
If you observe autopsies (they've had quite a few on TV) the rest of the body is in some ways pretty straight-forward ... just a machine to support the functioning brain which is the real mystery, as it's where consciousness gets into matter.

RE: inteligent design
The crux of the theory of evolution is in the statistical model of random mutation.
What gives you that notion, wayfarer?
Patsy.

The theory of evolution does. 😀
The only explanation the theory has for the growth of the gene pool, and hence speciation etc.,is random mutation of genes (followed by "natural selection" which is really "natural deselection" - "unfit or uncompetitive genes" not surviving).
Do you have another angle? Please post.
RE: inteligent design
Intelligent design is the result of the fundamentalist American christian far right marketing team. They found no rational person could believe in creationism so they dressed it up and relaunched for the 21st century.
I would defineatly hire the people that thought that one up.

Yes, clever, what? I can laugh at the clever deception.
It seems to me, and my understanding is limited so please correct me, anyone, that there are two issues here:
(1) The political agenda; and let's face it, it is there. From the US of A. But not all of it. That we are now supposed to throw rationality out of the window and 'believe' that the fundamentalist agenda has the so-called truth; e.g. they have 'the truth'. Yeah, don't so many people play that ridiculous game ...
(2) Just IMHO, really in MHO, the idea that a 'Mind' is behind all this cannot be fobbed off. There doesINHO appear to be a design and a motive and a reason for us all existing. Given time, it could even be demonstrated within the realms of pure science and also philosophy.
Nothing really does appear to be random. There's something else behind the illusion of randomness IMO ...
