A Physicist in India has been examining “strange, thick-walled, red-tinted cell-like structures about 10 microns in size” and it seems his experiments suggest that they reproduce prolifically even in water heated to 600 degrees Fahrenheit – yet live as we know it cannot operate above a temperature of 250 degrees Fahrenheit… even more bizarrely – they seem to lack DNA…

Amazing isn't it, doubt we will get the definative truth through the media, but here is some links I thought you might like to read

Apparently unknown 'black insects' have been associated with the red rain (unconfirmed?)

PDF report dated October 2003 regarding the " Red Rain"

Enjoy!!

A superb item, Roger! Thanks for posting it! [:-]

It's not an April Fool's joke as the story begins in summer 2001.

If the reports of this red rain falling over a period of two months are true, these didn't come off a meteor(ite).

Strange and coloured rainfalls, often localised, are a typical Fortean phenomenon - in fact one of the most common phenomena amongst all Forteana, and Charles Fort detailed many of them in his four classic books. As a little boy I collected stuff from such a rainfall in Coventry: the rainfall contained tiny dead marine creatures of an unknown type, a quarter to half an inch long, but the fall was very localised. 'Science' and the media typically give 'winds from the Sahara' as the cause of red rain in the UK, but for many reasons such as the verylocalised falls, this is often impossible and they are stretching for 'solutions'.

If so many of these red microbes fell in Kerala, you'd surely get a LOT of the meteor(ite) itself? - but no falling rock is mentioned at all. So - not from outer space, I'd say. But still a fascinating piece of Forteana.

Since the 'microbes' are 'captured' and under study - whereas so many anomalous phenomena get away and are mere sightings of something unusual, this is very interesting and we can await replication experiments.

In the article it says: "....to confirm whether the cells truly lack DNA. So far, one preliminary DNA test has come back positive." Bad grammar! - as I don't know if 'positive' means yes, they have DNA, or no, they don't. 😮

RE: Confirmed Alien Life?... Could it be!

Hello David and Roger,

If these creatures lack DNA, I'd be extremely surprised. Every living creature has to have it, even if it's an alien life form.

This story reminds me of what happened during an experiment carried out in Victorian times. Two scientists were conducting experiments into the possibilities of electricity and amino acids, and one day, one of them went into the laboratory. To the experimenter's astonishment he saw some tiny insects, very small things, which had curiously materialised overnight. They had six legs and two protuberances sticking out of their bodies. They died after a short time, but over time, it has been proved that for life to evolve, amino acids, some waterand a burst of electricity is all it takes.

I guess that if these alien life forms existed, then traces of the amino acids would have been present in their DNA.

Patsy.
