Hi, not from Munster but from Ulster - tonight i've spotted 2 postings from Ireland-based members which is unusual! Hope you will find fellow forum members and hence fellow therapists.

I've found the forum quiet in terms of Irish postings/responses

Regards

Hi Ladyholly and Hello Anxious,

The forum is quiet here though guess there are a few Irish visitors! Just to introduce myself, I am married, 2 boys 7 & 5, work full time in design office and had a passion about holistic therapies. 2 years ago went off and did A&P, massage, Indian Head etc, on weekend courses. It was tough but worth it. My dream was to do reflexology so have just qualified. I work from a room at home in the evenings and sometimes weekends. I am slowly building up a client base. Let us know what you do??

I also met a lovely memeber from Cork here on the forums, can't think of her name though at the moment. She might post soon if this thread is active.

Best wishes to you.

Love & blessings,

Rachel

Rachel - my background has similarities in that I also took an interest in studying holistic therapies a few years ago and I still try and get clients but this is proving almost impossible for me! I work in a University here in 'the North' but not in an area remotely like the therapies.

Hi!:)I'm from Cork, and I'm waiting on my CIBTEC results. I did Skin Treatments by night, I have also done a Cert course in Ear Candling and am hoping to do Waxing and Nail Treatments in September, again by night. I'm separated with three kids.

Hi Stardust,

Hope things are well with you.

Hello Marceyd, Best of luck with your CIBTEC results, must have been hard studying with 3 children to look after.

Hello Anxious, I have read some of your posts re setting up regional groups. It is hard to get clients or clients that will come back regularly for treatments. I have got mine really by word of mouth, though with a full time day job I am happy enough having 1 or 2 clients during the week in the evenings. Have you done any advertising?

Hi Flopsy, Like you, I do enjoy browsing around and having a read. I have a cousin who moved from the UK with her hubbie living in Swinford and not long after they moved over, his family moved from London to Castlebar. They love it there, have really settled in well. We are due to go to Swinford for weekend in a few weeks.

It is good to keep this thread going, perhaps there are more Irish members that might post,

Love & blessings,

Rachel

Hi enchantedhands

you ask about advertising - i've done some but not the traditional papers advert (as i'm worried about getting inappropriate responses!). I produced leaflets and did drops in local health shops - and the leaflets all get lifted! I've used word of mouth and various simple forms of publicity, including preparing to give talks, but .....

i'm genuinely keen and would be very happy with one or two clients weekly - being male, in my opinion, may be a 'turn off' for some

Hiya,

I am lucky in sense that I have full time employment so don't have to rely on my therapies. I too did not want to advertise in local papers or put posters up etc. One thing I am not very confident is in pushing myself as a therapist. I found word of mouth brought in my clients. I also think of leaflets, when they come through the door, if you don't need or require them at that time, you are more than likely to bin them. I wouldn't worry about being a male therapist. Ok some people might think its strange or be "put off" as you say but if you market yourself as best you can, it will work for you. Tell people you are a holistic therapist and say things like "did you know about stress, diet etc", tell people exactly what you do. It is hard to get going and out there as a therapist. Is there any opportunites for you to do some tasters at a local school etc..

Don't be disheartened, it can take some time and you will get there, just think positive!!

Love & blessings,

Rachel.

Hi also Jenstarbar, I am a bit clueless to fradic machines etc but do have a friend also how has just finished beauty exams so she has been explaining a few things. Its tough sometimes when you get asked oral questions especially when you know the answers but can't get them out!! Wishing you the very best for great results which you should have very soon!!

Love & Blessings,

Rachel

Hi Enchantedhands

I work from home as a holistic therapist and have been doing this for about 18 months now. I'm a Reiki Master and teach as well as practice, a Bush Flower Essence Advanced Practitioner, I'm also qualified in holistic massage (ITEC) although I don't do so much of that as I prefer energy work. I'm just getting into 'shamanic' type work which seems to be where my path is currently leading. I'm being drawn towards sound through rattle, singing bowl and drum and am beginning to use these in my healing work. I am also a pendulum dowser and teach this too oh yeah, I also have a labyrinth in the garden and use this for meditation and with groups.

Wow Butterflywings,

What you do is very interesting. I too am a Reiki Master but apart from doing attunements on a few friends, I don't teach, though may do at some stage in the future. I am interested in the Shamanic work. I once had a yoga teacher who used to bring her singing bowl to classes and ask us to be aware of where we felt the vibrations, she also attended drumming (don't know if you call them classes?). She went to sweatlodges too, it was really interesting to hear of her experiences. I purchased 2 pendulums in the last year, I am amazed with them, we use them to "find" lost toys etc in the house. Are you near Limerick? (hope you don't mind me asking and if you don't want to publically post you can always pm me). I would love to participate in the drumming. There used to be one on in Ennis though not sure if it continued.

Enjoy HP, its a bit addictive!!

Love & blessings,

Rachel
