Hi
I have been using Soapnuts for all my washing for about 18mths now. Iusually add a few drops of essential oil to the wash, try to low spin, sometimes they go in the dryer and sometimes on the line.
Getting out my summer clothes from last year I have found a number of items seem to have lost their elasticity ~ They were fine the last time worn so can only assume it's either the Soapnuts having a corrosive effect or the essential oils.. I tend to use Lavender & Geranium oils.
Never had this problem before, anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
Sue
RE: SOAPNUTS - Can they damage clothes?
I use soapods and essential oils and have never had a problem. Why dont you try eco balls, they cost 30 pounds but last for 1000 washes?
You can find them here [link= http://www.ethicalsuperstore.com ]www.ethicalsuperstore.com[/link]

These items that have lost their elasticity - do they have elastane in them?
Oils will eventually corode rubber, so it might be the essential oils rather than the soapnuts.....
Also, if you have a new machine that spins faster - the spinning can weaken fibres.

RE: SOAPNUTS - Can they damage clothes?
Thank you both...
Yes my new machines can spin to 1400 :). Yes it could be the oils.
I had looked at the Eco Balls, maybe when my nuts start to run out I will try these next... wont be until after the summer though I have nearly 1kg of them left..
Maybe on my final washes before I put some of the clothes away for the season I will wash with Ecover? Definitely food for thought
Thanks

RE: SOAPNUTS - Can they damage clothes?
I haven't used soapnuts, but when I used Eco Balls I started to get little green spots on my whites - it looked a little like spots of tree sap..... and I couldn't get rid of these little green spots - although I didn't go as far as using bleach! [:'(]
I didn't want to blame the Eco Balls, but when I changed back to Ecover I stopped getting the little green spots. Changed back to the Eco Balls - back came the little green spots. Back to Ecover - gone again.
Just thought I'd share.....
