From a technical pov, a washing line is more efficient than a rotary because it presents all the washing equally the the air around it. However, a rotary is better for the small garden and is obviously more space efficient.

We have a modern line where the poles can be removed and put away when not in use.

Thanks for the replies folks.
Rayne - I definitely decided on the rotary after reading your's, but then read on with the others and I'm not sure again. :032:
Will have to string something makeshift up today - can't waste another day of this lovely drying weather!!

I have found (with my rotary) that if I space stuff out, and don't peg something right in front of another then all the items dry equally. I put lighter/smaller stuff closer to the centre, and thicker/larger items on the outer wires.

((When we lived in the States we weren't allowed to hang stuff outside (residential bye-laws!) - it either had to be tumbled or put on a line in the basement))

I had a rotary one years ago but swapped it for a conventional line. I found the stuff in the middle didn't dry properly.
