Can people who are coming to buy plants not keep some old sheet or towel in their car boot?

When I was an avid gardener/plant collector, I used to take an old plastic laundry basket lined with newspaper to garden centres and nurseries. This went from my car to their wheelbarrow, got filled with new treasures which were handled minimally and quickly at the checkout, pushed wheelbarrow back to car ... job done! They then stayed in the basket, on the terrace, until I was ready to plant them.

Degradable or not we waste so much!

Last week we got a Tesco delivery for christmas, needless to say it was a big delivery. But the point is they packed the stuff in bags, then the bags went into the crates for delivery. Fair enough it needs to be packed but I counted the use of 67 bags. A lot of them had single items in, like celery was in one bag, some watercress was in another bag. Such absolute waste. I told he driver to take back the carriers and he said no!!!

Asda do exactly the same, sometimes there's only one thing in a bag, its so wasteful. They did take them back at one point, infact, one driver made me take everything out of the bags and stood there waiting while I did it, and then asked for the bags back, but now they don't. Whats that all about?

I wouldn't mind supermarkets banning the carrier bag, but I still small bags to put my veg in, so they are all separate in the main bag.

I hope you contacted the store about the drivers refusal to take the bags back. I did and have no problem now. Tesco's have a policy to accept used bags back.

:)I think they were called Paper bags.:)

Slightly off topic, but why do they not ban the use of over the top plastic packaging?

We always recycle our bags, and well, I think to be fair, we do forget to take our bags, if I go to the shop and forget, I usually have a big enough bag to put it in. I don't think they should be fully banned, just maybe limited. x
