Hiya everyone

Has anyone read Twilight by Stephanie Meyer? OMG! It is fantasitc. It is due to be released on Movie very soon and it looks very good, so I thought I would read the book before hand.

When seventeen-year-old Isabella Swan moves to Forks, Washington to live with her father she expects that her new life will be as dull as the town itself. In spite of her awkward manner and low expectations, she finds that her new classmates are drawn to this pale, dark-haired new girl in town. But not, it seems, the Cullen family. These five adopted brothers and sisters obviously prefer their own company and will make no exception for Bella. Bella is convinced that Edward Cullen in particular hates her, but she feels a strange attraction to him, although his hostility makes her feel almost physically ill. He seems determined to push her away - until, that is, he saves her life from an out of control car. Bella will soon discover that there is a very good reason for Edward's coldness. He, and his family, are vampires - and he knows how dangerous it is for others to get too close. From Amazon

(I read Atonement and The Golden Compass before the movies and thought the movies were much better than the actual books. lol)

But I'm sure the movie of this book could never be as good as the book it'self. The book is aimed at the older teen, I was dispointed to not be able to find it in Borders, till they pointed me to the Teen section. Honestly, I think it is a little too erotic for teens, if I read this as a teen I would of searched high and low for a Vampire and never married till I had found him. lol

The writing is very good and a real page turner, I was up till 2am this morning and wanted to finish the book, but knew I'd devour it more if I left it till today, and the best thing is there is another 2-3 books that follow on. As I said, some of the descriptions are so erotic, but not sleezy and you can't help but put yourself in the girl's shoes and wish it were yourself 😉

LOL Angel, I thought I was the only 'closet' Twilight reader!!!

My youngest daughter started to read them first (she's now 18) and kept raving about the first book and kept on at me to read it. I managed to stall her for a while with the reasons of "I'm too old for that kind of story", "It's not my cup of tea" etc but she persisited and I was a captive victim after having my first op back in August as I had nothing to do but read lol. I have now read the first three books and although I'm not swooning over any of the characters ( I mean who do you choose...a vampire or a werewolf????) I found it quite an entertaining read.
My daughter is now whipping herself up into a frenzy at the thought of the film coming out soon and just glad she's at Uni now so I won't get dragged out to watch it! Were you aware there is a fan group known as the 'Twilight Mum's', people like us who have become huge fans?
I'm waiting to read the next book when she brings it home at Christmas.

I love Twilight!!!! I am currently on the 4th book (the last one) and am 3/4's through it. I just got my sister into it, and she is smitten with Edward and Jacob, and she's a Twilight addict lol.

Ohhh thank goodness I am not the only fan.

Well I got the first book finishes in little over a day and started straight onto the next one. I spent 8 hours yesterday reading that one and managed to start the third last night. Took a break to dash to Borders to get the 4th, thank goodness it is huge and is gonna take me more than a day to get through it.

Dunno about you guys, but book 2 nearly teared me apart, I mean what was with writing one of the main characters out for 7 mths, I nearly died.

I'm a Vampire fan, the werewolves irk the hell out of me, I used think Jacob was pretty okay, till he turned....wish he would leave Bella alone. And the love Edward as for this girl is just so beautiful this book has got to be one of the best love storys in history.

I must admit, I didn't think I would ever find a series of Books I'd enjoy after Harry Potter, but I was wrong, the Twilight series are brilliant. Only problem is, I have an assignment deadline in 2 days and can't get it done for reading. lol

Ohhhh I forgot to add......How could I forget this......

I watched the movie today.....just as good as the book, though I do think if you haven't read the book, then you just won't get a good feel for the characters as their intense emotions are not portrayed enough.

Edward.......Just as I imagined. 🙂
Dr Carlise Cullen.....they got him spot on, looks fantastic.
James...... vicious and briliant too.
Alice.....just like the book.

I wasn't keen on the actress that played Bella though, she always looks awkward in front of Edward, but then I am not keen on Bella in the book either. lol Just hope they make the follow up movies now.....it was left at a point where a second can be made....

Hi Angel,

I have seen trailers on youtube of the movie. It looks really good. I loved all the books, but I am struggling with book 4. It's OK, but for me there seems to be something missing. I'm 3/4 through it, and will most probably finish it at the weekend. But so far this book 'for me' seems to be the weakest.

Hiya Whispers

I started Book 4 this morning, I got to the end of Bella and am about to start Jacob. I really wish it was more adult themed, I was almost wanting Edward as much as Bella;) lol, but felt cheated the author missed the biggest love scene out....am sure you'll understand what I mean. lol

I actually don't care for Jacob and skimmed through the book to see if it returns to Bella....thankfully it does.

P.S. Now where is the fan website at? 🙂

I read all four books quickly and enthusiastically, following the lead of my students, aged 12-14.

I really appreciate the fact that it is a love story that kids of this age can read and not have to be involved in all of the sexual aspects of the relationship. It stays tasteful, even after marriage, and keeps the tension of attraction at an acceptable level.

I love the way the characters care for one another and the depth of their feelings.

Book four was a bit disappointing in its conclusion, but it was true to the philosophy of the storyline, so I couldn't complain.

My compliments to Stephenie Meyer who did a masterful job of writing an appropriate teen series. =)

Hiya Reikiangel

Thanks for the link.

Well I have been on the site for ages now, it is really very good.

And I've found out some good and bad news.

First the good news, there is a book five called Midnight Sun. The story goes right back to the begining and is told from Edward's perspective......well you know how I just love Edward. lol

Bad news.....someone one got a hold of the draft of this story and e-mailed the world with i,t which as really upset Stephenie Meyer (as it would) so she has announced that is it "on hold indefinitely". Either that or she was gonna have James kill all the Cullens (NO WAY!). I think she must be in a bad place right now.

Better news..... so rather than have people search for this "illigal draft" she had decided to put the draft on her webpage for all fans to read. I'm pretty chuffed, at least now, we have something rather than nothing.

Enjoy!

Hi Angel,

I've known about this for a while and have stayed away from this draft. Simply because I don't want to spoil it for myself. I don't want to read it till I have the book in my hands. 😉

I finished Breaking Dawn and sadly I was really disappointed. For me, it was nothing like the first three and it was far too long. But that's just my opinion.

But Stephenie does have another book out, which is adult fiction called The Host. I've heard it's really good so will be getting that after xmas. 🙂

Hiya Whispers

I have just finished reading the draft....after reading she may not finish it, I just couldn't resist. IMHO, it was better than than Twilight, to hear the same story but from Edward's point of view was much better. Getting inside the vampire's head was much more interesting.

I'm popping to Borders tomorrow hopefully to get The Host, I saw it last week and thought I would give the Twilight Series a try before I got that one.

I'm nearing the end of the 4th book, I must admit, I am trying to stretch it out because I don't want it to end. I'm dreading it, I just hope no one gets killed off....

I've been hearing a lot about this series for a while now, you guys have convinced me and I've ordered a copy of Twilight from Amazon (for an amazing £2.50!). I haven't read anything for about a month now so looking forward to getting stuck in.

Hope you enjoy.

Hi Angel, someone said to me yesterday, they believe the draft to be a publicity stunt. The more people read the draft the more they will want Midnight Sun. It then all gets hyped up so that everyone gets to hear about it etc. I think that makes sense, may be it is a publicity stunt.

Like J K Rowling's Beadle the Bard, apparently that was only supposed to be seven books, but she got it published and could well have just been a publicity stunt to hype it up.

curious_george - I hope you like the series. 😉

Well, started readin twilight this weekend and I am quite impressed - at first I thought it might be a bit too simplistic and 'teen' orientated (I can be a harsh critic when it comes to books despite the fact I'll willingly read pretty much anything), but it kept me up last night reading and I'm pretty sure I was dreaming about it last night too! Can't wait to get home and finish the book this eve, then I'll have to go and find book 2 tomorrow. The tension between Edward and Bella is great, reminds me so much of what it was like being a teenager madly in love!

Hiya CG

Have you got the follow on books yet, New Moon, Total Eclipse and Breaking Dawn? I have read the whole series 3 times since getting them in November, they are so addictive. I even took the family to see the Twilight movie at the cinema, even though I had downloaded it and watched it about 20 times. lol

Lovin it!

I can't believe how much this booked has gripped me. My brother bought me the first 3 books for xmas although the film was already out all I knew is that Edward is played by the guy who lay Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter. anyway I was like...what have you bought me 3 books for I have a toddler and no time to read. well my husband was beginning to get jealous as I was taking Edward an Bella to bed every night and soo deep into it that I would read myself to exhaustion and fall asleep with the book in my hand...I never do this. I thought at first it was an easy read and a bit young for me but it really gripped. I ignored my husband one evening for 3 hrs as I was determined to finish Twightlight. what a cliff hanger it left me on... I felt my adrenaline rushing and I just couldnt wait to start New moon. I picked it up a few days ago and I'm already half way through. I can't stress how rare this is for me. although I have to admit I have been dreaming about deaths and funerals a lot since I started reading them. not sure if this is connected.
Is the movie as good as the book would you recommend me see it or would it spoil it for me as the films usually do.

Hi Karen,

You sound like my daughter who got me hooked on these books! I have seen the film as well as reading the books but admit the books are better. Things are condensed in the film and some things are in it that aren't actually in the book!
Don't forget your husband for too long lol!

Karen, I am sorry hun, Maybe I should of warned people of it's addiction in the first thread. I too am a Twihard fan. So have you decided if you are are Team Edward or Team Jacob yet. lol

Have you heard of Fanfiction? Now I have the books to peices, my sister (who is also a twihard fan) and I have reverted to Fanfiction, that too is addictive.....all the characters wrote into stories from the fans.

So, are you looking forward to New Moon movie, I hear they want Dakota Fanning to play Jane.

I can't wait.
