RE: TV tonight on autism..
Morning,
My wife works as a TA at this school and has worked closely with most of the pupils featured. She did breathe a sigh of relief as there were no shots of her! The programme was extremely well done and showed life at the school and for the pupils very accurately. Obviously, there were things happening off camera that were not shown for edit purposes but it did not detract from the eventual programme.
I hope you all enjoyed it.
All the best,
Russell

Hi Guys,
Well I for one was totally fascinated, I just don't know how the staff cope, and I certainly don't know how the kids cope... what a task for them all.
Cerntain lines will live with me...but my fav: -
"I don't mind her having two boyfriends...err...do you think that's wrong?"

Roger

Hiya
I like to think my information and knowledge on "spectrum disorders" is pretty good or at least as good as can be without being personally involved which we all know is a totally different kettle of fish....but I learnt a lot yesterday, it was certainly a very insightful programme....

Hiya Roger,
I agree with your thoughts about the staff, my wife comes home with pinch marks, bruises from being punched and kicked etc. She's had handfulls of hair pulled out, furniture thrown at her and she's been pushed down stairs.
The funny thing is that she knows they are frustrated at not being able to express themselves properly and often she's in the wrong place at the wrong time. Once they calm down they are really sorry about what happened.
What makes the difference is when they advance and learn to look after themselves. This is from being able to buy groceries, use a bus or cook. She gets a huge thrill from seeing them get on and is very sad when they leave at 19.
