Mitch Albom's latest book (Tuesdays with Morrie was a previous winner).
Give this one a go. Really hits the spot!

RE: the five people you meet in Heaven
Hi, I have heard of this book. Without giving too much away, could you tell me a little bit more about the story? (That will hopefully encourage me to determine if this is a book for me)!
Grateful thanks,
Dreamycat
RE: the five people you meet in Heaven
Dear Dreamycat
Now here's a thing. I was watching a little bit of Richard and Judy this week (never normally do that!) and who should they have on but the lovely author, talking about his first book - Tuesdays with Morrie - and this one - The Five People You Meet in Heaven. To summarise the book, the author believes that we all live on after death. At the point of death we meet five people, who illustrate the way we interconnected with them in life (sometimes without even knowing we did). The hero of the book has to die, as I recall, at the start of the book - not something that normally happens!
It's only a small book but I defy anyone not to feel good at the end. It's beautifully put together. You can get in in any Smiths/Waterstones/Ottakers etc; etc.
Do hope you'll like it.

RE: the five people you meet in Heaven
Hi RJones,
Thank you so much - Isn't that interesting that this author should be on Richard & Judy - I wonder if you are now tempted to read the first book 'Tuesdays With Morrie'. If so, don't forget to 'review' it!
Along with 'Birdsong' this is definitely a book I will now also be reading.
(I wonder if from your description of the story if the author was influenced by the story of the film 'It's a Wonderful Life' - great film, hope it is on again over Christmas).
Regards,
Dreamycat
RE: the five people you meet in Heaven
Dear Dreamycat
I have already read Tuesdays with Morrie and also seen the film - with Jack Lemmon playing Morrie as I recall. The book is much better than the film and I defy anyone not to be in tears at the end - although it is also hugely uplifting.
In a way it reminded me of the other book I posted on the site a few weeks ago - "Signals" by Joel Rothschild. Do read it - it's an autobiography about a gay chap whose lover commits suicide and comes back to speak with him. He's quite a celebrity now in the States and became hugely psychic after the experience. It's another of those "small" books, which you can polish off in a couple of evenings.
Happy reading!

RE: the five people you meet in Heaven
Hi again R Jones,
This book list of mine is getting longer by the moment!!!
So please give me an idea of what 'Tuesdays with Morrie' is about?
Much appreciate your input.
Happy Reading,
Dreamycat.
RE: the five people you meet in Heaven
Dear Dreamycat
Now then - if I recall correctly - Mitch is a student of Morrie - his school sports coach and this is a true story. After school Mitch goes on to work in another part of the States (as a journalist I think) and, years later, is astounded to see Morrie - now much older - on national TV, being interviewed about how he is dealing with his condition - Motor Neurone I seem to remember.
Mitch decides to visit his old tutor and is astounded at how he is able to live life to the full and appreciate everything around him, even though he is living a death sentence. Morrie and he meet at Morrie's home every Tuesday up to the end of the book - hence the title.
Do hope you'll enjoy it. I personally think it's a gem.

Hi RJones,
What thought provoking subjects this author imparts to readers! I will look out for this book too.
Thank you for your help. Although it is most satisfying when you come to the end of a really good read, it is also sad that it has finished too!
Christmas joys and blessings to you,
Dreamycat.
