Hiya Everyone
Has anyone read this book, it was pretty cheep the other week on the Amazon Kindle so I downloaded it, pleased I did as I am half way into it and really enjoying it. It basically tells the life of a London Prostitute in the late 1800's and how a wealthy man takes her under his wing and gives her a house etc. It's a very long book though and I've just read there was a BBC drama made of it. Has anyone seen it?

Yes - watched the programme - it was brilliant. Now want to read the book.
Yep, watched the series on iplayer. It was really good (as most BBC period dramas are).
😉
funny you should post about that, I was out tonight and the group I was with spoke about the tv series and said how good it was. will have to try to get the book.
I saw the PB version in a shop the other day, it was quite thick, so I must have a fair way to go with it on the Kindle, really enjoying it, I looked on iPlayer but can't find it, though I have seen a few clips of it on YouTube. Must admit, from the clips, William looks nothing like I imagined him too.

Brilliant, thoroughly enjoyed it too, but was half expecting Moss to jump out somewhere (IT Crowd fan here) Chris O'Dowd was brilliant in it, but did miss his Irish accent 🙂
Ohhhh finally finished reading the book, enjoyed it but left me wondering a bit!
Spolier Alert
Was it Agnes that was found in the river because William wasn't all that sure and if so what on earth happened to the poor women, did I miss something?
And after stringing us along forever, he could of let us know what become of Sugar and Sophie?

No, it wasn't Agnes. I assume the book follows what was shown in the TV series. In the series, she cut her hair before she left as she was intending to go to a convent (we never know if she made it, but we can assume she did). The body found in the river had long hair, and the TV series did emphasise the hair thing so it was obvious to Sugar that it wasn't Agnes, but only Sugar knew that and she kept quiet so that everyone else believed Agnes was dead and she wouldn't be persued any more.
😉
Ha...thanks for that Giles, no mention of a hair cut is in the book, so it did leave me wondering a bit about it.

It happens when Sugar tells agnes she will help her and to get her things, so she goes back to her room and cuts her hair short, seemingly in expectation for going to the convent and, if I recall correctly, when Sugar sees it she says something like "What have you done... never mind ...." and then helps her to get to the train station.
I popped into HMV yesterday to see if they had the DVD. The young lad behind the counter says, "Ohhh that's that new sexy one from the BBC!" I was a little embaressed, I didn't realise it was going to be "sexy". But anyhow, it not out for a few more weeks. So I looked it up and found YouTube was showing it, so settled in front of the computer and watched it there. Wow, it really was .... ermmm graphic! lol
But thoroughly enjoyed it, I don't think it would of being something I watched unless I'd read the book, but again, it was really very good.

I would have classed it as a raunchy period drama. "sexy" ? well, that just says a lot about eh lad behind the counter methinks. 😉
