RE: What did Jesus look like?
ORIGINAL: waywood
As He himself said:
"I am the way, the truth, the life. No-one comes to the Father except by me"
Also "I am the resurrection and the life"
Mind you, the New Age or esoteric 'take' on these lines is that they've been sorely and devastatingly misunderstood by orthodoxy for nigh two millenia. The "I am" parts there didn't mean according to this view that Jesus the person is the "only way" to God. That's the vicarious or cop-out atonement method of belief whereby he does it all for us and we are passive serfs whose free will counts for little.
The esoteric understanding is that the "I AM" part there means the Higher Self of Christ in all of us. And it spoke universally through him to us all. The Christ in each of us, individually, is our own and only way upward. No-one can do it for us, not Jesus or any Master, for where is the attainment in another doing it for you?

RE: What did Jesus look like?
That's exactly what The Second Coming of Christ by Yogananda is all about. I've been reading a chapter a night and find it fascinating. Last night's chapter was about the Infancy Gospels of Jesus! I never heard of them. It seems that many documents were discarded before they wrote, or edited, the New Testament, and most of the valuable eye witness accounts were lost or burned. Fortunately for us, some were hidden and have been gradually found again over time. It's interesting how most Christian churches are so rigid in their teachings when they have incomplete texts.
RE: What did Jesus look like?
JESUS - ideally to me has eyes like marbels - multi coloured - with hair of mixed colours red - yellow - brown - black (as all natural hair is a mixture with one dominating) would like to imagine jesus had an even sprinkling of all - with multi features reflecting the ultimate human being - one race - the human race.
The eye of the beholder will see what he wants to see in order to feel connected maybe reflecting himself to the Christ ........who knows
Original pharoahs were black but portrayed as white why? ..........
So be wise as a serpent & as gentle as a dove & wish for all continents to diffuse as one. Jesus is an inspiration from history.............lets look to the future.
RE: What did Jesus look like?
We are all to have varying degrees of understanding. Once I had a friend who was experiencing a life as a con man. I tried, in my naivity, to introduce him to spirituality. After some time of trying to cajole him into coming to a spiritualist church (which he did once and assurred me that he enjoyed it but it was not for him) his guides, who presented to me as orientals (beautifully attired) advised me that were the veils to be removed from his eyes he could not forgive himself for that which he was doing. No, he was experiencing a life as a con man. He, I was advised, was a soul of great light and intent. This incarnation did not show that. It was this experience more than any other which made me understand that we must not judge another for we know not who we judge.
During the early nineties, whilst in circle, our group was given the understanding that the second coming was upon us. We were advised that this meant that the Christ within all of us would begin its ascension. Many of us are aware of the Christ within. Many of us are to give the world this new understanding. Many of us are unsure as to how this new information (not so new) will be accepted. Many of us need courage to express that which we know to be true.
Our Lord Jesus awaits the new. His words have been so misunderstood. He was not talking from the mind of man but from the Christ of God, The Infinite.
I speak as gently as I can for I know that for many this information will not seem real. But indeed it is. I accept that you may not want, at this point in time, to believe. This is your choice. We await the outcome of our words.
Many blessings

RE: What did Jesus look like?
Wow such a vast difference in all your views is Jesus blonde or brunette, does he have blue, hazel or brown eyes, was he softly spoken or a rebal rouser. Quite frankly when it comes down to scientific archeological evidence of Jesus there is only one sourse that of the Roman historian (and I constently forget his name). He writes of a Jewish man, by the name of Jesus, travelling the countryside with his followers. Now the Romans really were not at all bothered about him, he posed no threat to them what so ever, but he did pose a threat to the Jewish priesthood and it was them who wanted to get rid of him. After all he was causing them a lot of trouble and were making the population think about their religious laws.
Finally Jesus was brought to trial and crusified in the normal Roman way (crucifiction was a normal way of putting anyone to death) instead of Jesus Barabas. Yes Jesus was quite a common name back then. There anything of proof of Jesus's existance dissappears. There is no actual description of what he looked like, though one would, if looking at it logically, expect him to look like a Jew as that was how he was born a Jew. If he had been born a Roman he'd have looked like one. Therefore he would be brown skinned with brown hair and brown eyes etc. However it is wrong to think that he would have had long hair and a straggly beard. It was the 'fashion' at the time for all Jews to cut their hair short and also their beards.
But as you have all said the 'God' part of him could mean that he appeared to everyone differently. But isn't that true of everybody, we all see each other in a different way, and we even see ourselves differently from others when we look in the mirror so our own perspectives of ourself is different to that of others.
And lets face it we only know that the colour green is green because that is what we have been taught, but just exactly the shade - well is that the same?
My own version of Jesus is of a man who saw something wrong with the way his people lived and worshiped and couldn't just sit by and do nothing about it. Was he the son of God, I don't know to me he wasn't to me he was no more important than Moses. But that is my own belief, I wouldn't expect anyone else to believe it as my belief in God is different.
So in conclusion I believe that we all have differing opinions on everything therefore we are all going to see things differently. Thats what makes us what we are, unique and isnt it wonderful.
I'm not even going to go to what I believe in the second coming.
