RE: Universal

Hi Mark,

To me this goes all the way back to being or not being "PC" - which did get a bit ridiculous. I am also veggie, but I do not expect animal life to in a literal way talk back to me. So what is not PC is to say that they are "lower" life-forms. And people either accept that and live with it or not. 😉 Compared to us they are lower life-forms.

Mark,

Your post touched something off in me and I will share this. It isn’t really a reply to your post, but is just one way to relate to non-human life.

I have a friend in Scandinavia who I don’t necessarily agree with all the time, but I do respect her point of view. It seems as if she values animal life above that of humans (which, and it could be another thread, I do not agree with). But all the same, wild life all around seems to pick up on that. You wake up in the morning to find a dying hedge hock on you doorstep, begging for solace. And all the pheasants nest on this property where they cannot be shot legally – though some still are.

What prompts me is something I cannot really explain in a text post. You have to see it. But all of life gathers around that place, and when you wake up in the morning, you know that there will be a “queue” for the non-official surgery.

For example, the hedge-hog never made it. You could always clean away the maggots from its hurt eye, but if you let it loose the flies would return. But I feel that the positive note is that they all die in comfort, and most for that matter do live.

So once more, my view is that animal life must be cherished, but it does not work to be fanatical about it all (not meaning that you are!) and that human concerns right now are more important IMHO.

Hi Celtia,

Everything has a consciousness. It might not be the same as human consciousness, but it's there. This is why we have to respect our world and treat it with reverence.

I like plants. I speak to my plants every day and I stroke and pamper them. They have flourished so much, especially one, which I now have to repot. Plants do respond to voice and touch, and therefore have a consciousness of their own.

Animals don't have the same levels of energy understanding as humans because they aren't like humans. They rely on instinct. However, we humans also have instinct if we truly listen to ourselves. Some humans make a conscious decision to become vegetarians, whereas animals, especially wild ones, just go with the flow.

Love,
Patsy.
