Twin flames are two souls whose karmic (healing) and dharmic (service) unfoldment is so perfectly matched that they are able to serve God and each other eternally, through that relationship. Not only is twin flame ship the highest form of relationship, it also gifts humanity with a vehicle for transcendence (and, ultimately, ascension) as twin flames continue shaping and leading each other into Oneness-the very embrace of the Beloved. This weaving, once all karma has been cleansed and transmuted, continues on a purely dharmic level, far beyond ascension. At that point, it becomes a matter of purely serving God (though it always was), which progressively expands the consciousness of the two souls. Looking into the ascended realm we find twin flames still serving creation through the woven tapestry of God's loving embrace. Some of these parings include: Lady Venus and Sanat Kumara, Lady Portia and St. Germain, St. Clare and St. Francis, Mother Mary and Archangel Raphael, and on and on.
Because twin flameship acts as a direct portal into the heart of God, the amount of Light that pours through it is like that in no other human-to-human dynamic. It is for this reason that twin flames, once (and if) awakened and ignited to each other, can only sustain a harmonious relationship if they have an extremely high degree of mutual surrender to God's Will for them. Twin flameship is not human love; it is Divine Love using two human portals.

There's much truth here, so it's nice to meet a kindred spirit with interest in this.
However according to the research I did which went into the published books on the subject, it was really strongly emphasised to me that 'down here' we have to do all our striving toward union with God ourselves. Even the twin flame is just another person 'down here' and cannot aid us in our Path, except that if we are both striving toward the same goal, then the twin flame relationship makes a great partnership.
However, lacking the twin flame, a great partnership can be made with many other people.

So this may seem like a minor point, or a personal view, or even nit-picking 😀 - but I was assured it is not. On Earth we have to gain our Ascension individually. Wait for anyone, including the twin flame, and you could wait ten million unnecessary years. So that perfect union takes place when each have - individually - succeeded utterly on the Path. Quite likely each will do so separately, or possibly so.
I would be told: "It's you and God, you and God" by the authorities on this subject. In other words, any eternal union with the twin flame is in a sense in place right now, but for it to be perfected and problem free, each Ascend individually and by self-attainment. No-one can do it for you.
So as I wrote on the earlier thread on twin flames (link above), I don't even think of this subject on the personal level. It'll all look after itself. I don't even wonder if a partner is my twin flame, since I've seen so much delusion (i.e. people being sure they have found that one three times in a decade with three different people!).
The most important relationship is that between the 'soul' down here and its God Self. Lacking that, all falls apart; with it, all falls together in Perfection. 🙂

P.S. I wholeheartedly agree that St. Clare and St. Francis appear as a wonderful example of twin flames. They could equally have been soul mates, and according to E.C. Prophet, at any rate, the twin flame of St. Clare was/is actually Mark L. Prophet, that of St. Francis still being unknown.
These 'unknown twin flames' are interesting and must in some cases be people still in incarnation. But again, though I was paid to research the subject full-time, it is of passing interest to me who a twin flame might be, since a lot of attention can get caught up in the subject, with imaginings, longings, etc.

thankyou so very much for all the input, i find this a fascinating subject. I really asked the question as i wanted clarity on whethter twin flames and soul mates were the same thing, which clearly they are not.

No they are not. a soul mate is someone you have spent past incarnations with.
Could be many past relashionships. Twin falmes where once a single soul and they spilt for some reason.

The way that the one Being divides into the two goes like this, according to the original sources which have brought forth the core teachings or information on Twin Flames. (I'm not seeking to justify or prove the truth of this, just stating what the information is from the original sources.) ...
At the highest level of which we know, the two Twin Flames are One Being which is usually called a God Flame. This is at an unbelievably high level of existence and little can be said or is known about it - far, far above and beyond the physical realm, far above 'spirits' etc. Basically it's at the level of God Him/Herself.
The one God Flame, after the manner of the Tao, becomes two great God Beings in descending one 'step' down in vibration, one predominantly male and one predominantly female. These God Beings are called Atmans by Hindus, and Monads in Theosophy; elsewhere called I AM Presences, etc.
Each I AM Presence may project a small portion of itself still much further 'down' in vibration, becoming an incarnate being here with a physical form, emotions, intellect and memory. This incarnate being is what people sometimes refer to as a 'soul'. So the soul doesn't divide, and in a way the God Flame never divides either: it simply becomes two when manifesting at a lower (but still extremely high) vibrational level. The God Flame continues always to exist as one at its exalted level.
Seen this way, we are always truly one with the Twin Flame, but the illusion is down here and once beset with karma and all the difficulties of life in this world that we are separate beings. At the God Flame level there never is a separation.
In fact, the temptation is to say 'I am a soul trying to gain reunion with my Higher Self'; but in fact we are that Higher Self always, and simply cannot feel or remember it, almost like a form of amnesia.
