Hi All

Does anyone out there go to a Spiritualist Church? I recently discovered that there is one very near to where I live and I am feeling quite drawn to go. I went off to find it and lurked about a bit out side, read the notice board and found out the times of services, healing sessions etc, but I am now a bit nervous and shy about going on my own. Are they friendly? Do you just turn up? And what happens at a service? How are they different from normal church services? What is a Spiritualist anyway?

They had angel workshops and courses about working with spirit guides advertised, so it sounds like the kind of thing I would be interested in, but please can someone tell me their experience of a Spiritualist Church?

RE: Spiritualist Churches

Hi C,

I have travelled to spiritual churches all over with my close friend who runs the service...We go for the journey and spend quality time together. Usually everyone is welcoming and the church seems to be a place that you can go by yourself...and be made to feel welcome.

Interestingly though I never go by myself...until last Thursday. I had been somewhere and I had a meeting an hour later...there I was on the mobile..in the rain - picture this and thought what could I do for the next Hour. Behind me the lights were on and I went in and prayed.

What was interesting I met someone who has held conferences on an area of my expertise....we got talking. Sometimes we are led to places to meet other people who might provide information or help along our life path.

My advice....If it feels right, try sum up the courage to go..and if you are a little nervous imagine I am with you...we can go together:) Always follow your gut feelings...when this feels right. Quite often there is something much bigger involved....

Keep us posted with how you got on.

Pauline Maria

RE: Spiritualist Churches

Hello Celtia,

Speaking as a medium who trained in a Spiritualist Church, I can reassure you that the churches are the most friendliest, welcoming places that you can find. I will sing their praises from the rooftops.

A Spiritualist church is really no different to any other place of worship. The only real differences are that the guest medium gives messages and proof of the life hereafter by speaking to members of the audience (rather like Colin Fry or John Edwards do on telly.) Hymns may be sung and prayers are offered. Announcements of healing times, open circles, find raising activities, special events and so on, are made and then the service ends. Everyone is offered a cup of tea and cake (small charge is made, usually) and this allows new folks to meet others of a like mind.

The most important thing about Spiritualist churches is Celtia, that the mediums booked, and the church's own resident mediums (of which I was one at Hounslow) are very highly trained people with a natural gift. There is no fakery or hoodwinking. The Church's reputation depends on the quality of the mediums who are taking the services, and any 'funny business' is stamped out. This is why I recommend that any new mediums first visit their local church and speak to someone there. I know that the advice given is going to be good advice.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

Love,
Patsy.

RE: Spiritualist Churches

Hi, Celtia [8D]
I have been going to Spiritualists churches since I was young and my mum dragged me along. There are many different sorts in my experience, but they all have one thing in common, a medium is booked every week.
I personally love the churches. They sung cool songs, like the Beatles and stuff, (other churches have more traditional songs), there's usually time for meditation (guided) and healing, you meet friendly, interesting and likeminded people, theres a reading or a sermon or like, and usually it's very informal. I've also found that most churches have a library which you can join and borrow books relating to Spiritualism or psychic development or whatever.
Often you can become involved in a development circle through a church, if you're interested in that.
I have to admit, my local church now is nothing like what I want. It's a real shame, but they're a bit... nutty...
However, no matter if they're a bit nutty or exactly what I wanted, I have always come away from a service feeling better, more lighthearted and happier and this has lasted throughout most of the week. It's a great feeling.

I also feel that if you are now feeling interested in a church, or are feeling drawn to go to one, then follow your instinct. There might be a message waiting for you, or a lesson to learn. And always remember that if you are not comfortable, you can always walk out. At least you'd have given it a try!

Good luck and keep us posted on whether you go and how you liked it.
Deanne.

Spiritualist churches in my experience are friendly place however some are well run and some are badly run, sometimes you will find a little power struggle going on with members but for me it's a good experience.

It also depends on the quality of the mediums that are book for the service, if you get a well known medium for the night you go it should be good but some churches let would be mediums on the podium to soon.
