Hello hello... this IS a tricky one, since our guides and friends want us to exercise our own wills as much as possible. I've found that sometimes a big spiritual carrot is dangled before us to give us an incentive and then when you get near...it's something entirely different! Just recently I've been thinking about the predictions and indications I've been given in the past which have never come true and I wonder if they have yet to form or were only possibilities based on action and reaction... Anyway... I've been 'nudged' in the past with one of those carrots or an out-right 'Oy, pay attention!' message (they know me so well). I have been told that although I am wandering off the path a little, that's okay because it will lead me back to the right one...

I suppose that, after learning to trust yourself and clearing away the inner obstacles to clear vision, then you develop a knowing and once you have this deep inner certainty, you will re-find your path easier every time you wander off it...

Sorry - not very clear about this at all but it's the place I am at right now. My inner knowing is in a bit of a conflict...lol.

Mmmmm difficult to explain. I agree with what Moonfeather has said and I am sure thre will be other people who will give you great answers.

There is defintely a KNOWING.... And for me... When you are on the right path things just natrually seem to fall into place.

For me, I know I'm on the right path when I experience synchronicities. Our spirit guides do nudge us or send us those synchronicities, signs or messages. They'll come in many forms whether it's internal, that higher voice in your head that speaks slower and lower then your chatterbox voice, or external, words on a page jump out at you or a bumper sticker grabs your attention. Spirit guides will even rearrange words. Like moonfeather said, the clearer you are, the more you'll have that knowing feeling. When I'm not clear, I don't notice the signs as much, they don't seem to pop out as much and I forget them or dismiss them. When I've experienced a release, the signs are clear, when I hold onto negative emotions, everything is cloudy and muddled. You need to clear the slate before you can set clear intentions. Release old unconscious patterns otherwise you'll get mixed messages.

For example, I was on a trip, someone died and I didn't know if I should stay or go home early. I asked for a sign, the number 13, the child who died was 13. I got the answer to go home when moments later my friends stopped to get a tarot reading on the street and the first card drawn was the number 13, the death card. Just as I made the phone call to change the flight, I got signs to stay, my cell went dead, then I couldn't get through on the line. That's because I didn't have confidence in my intuition, I was being tested.

Here's an example of synchronicity during a clear period. I declared an intention for my purpose to work with children with a specific disorder. I hadn't watched TV in weeks. For a couple of days I turned on the TV three times and each time there was a program on about children with that specific disorder which is quite rare and not well-known.

Someone recommended a book. I didn't read it. Then it popped out at me at the bookstore. I still didn't read it. Then I met the author's daughter. Okay, I'll read it!

Release the past, clear the slate, set intention, be present, and you'll be in awe when the synchronicities abound! You will know.

Excellent points, Nancy. Synchronicity... how did I forget that one? 😀
It's happened so many times in my life! And yes, when you're not clear, the signs get muddled or forgotten or ignored.

A very wise spirit told me once that to set intent, you had to clear and ask from the heart. If you asked from the head, he said, then it got muddled and wires could be crossed. If you asked from a clear heart, then there was no doubt and they could act upon it instantly.

Good advice.
