Dear All,
There are many wonderful loving and giving people who both read and contribute here. I have a question for you all:
"How good are YOU at receiving love from others?"
With my love,
Craig
RE: Receiving Love
"How good are YOU at receiving love from others?"
Good question, Craig. I've yet to meet a healer who is 100% open to receiving from others. It seems to be part of the mentality to give, give, give and run yourself into the ground... Kinda like the 'pay or not pay' thread currently running - some people get so guilty about asking for recompense that they drain themselves.
To receive love, you have to be willing to be vulnerable and that's a tough one sometimes. Thankfully, I am much better than I used to be and on the whole, will gratefully receive love, healing... anything but blows! 😀 Took a long time to learn though.
One thing to remember when you turn down love in any shape or form - by doing so, you are refusing the other person the gift and pleasure of giving.

RE: Receiving Love
Hi craig73,
I had to laugh when I read your post. I confess to being terrible at RECEIVING and love to give until one day a wiser person than I pointed out that I was depriving those who loved me of the pleasure of giving to me. I realized the truth of what they were saying and have been making a concious effort to receive ever since (although I do have relapses now and again lol!) It's quite a serious subject though so I would be interested in what others have to say,

RE: Receiving Love
Hi Reikiangel,
I too, have been accused of not receiving love as I should, and also depriving others of giving it to me. This came about last year during a discourse on why I don't have a mobile 'phone. My friend wanted to send me text messages yet I didn't want a 'phone because I'd be 'too accessible.' I think it just depends on how a person is. Vulnerability can also be apparent when someone is refusing love, too.
Love,
Patsy.

RE: Receiving Love
I agree with Reikiangel - This is a serious subject because there are serious undercurrents IMO
I agree with what has been said about denying others the pleasure and reward of giving. That is a significant factor.
What, to me, is more important (or equally?) is the actual cause behind 'give, give, give'. IN GENERAL (and it is a generalisation, but definitely one in the majority, in my experience) this desire, and choice of action, is a deflection from ones self due to fundamental and subconscious feelings of inadequacy and unworthiness.
Because an individual does not love themselves, nor accept themselves, they do not feel worthy (or 'good enough') to receive - love or anything else. To compensate for their feelings of inadequacy, they feel they must give all the time - to 'make up' for their shame/guilt at being who they are, even at great cost to themselves (which then has a knock-on effect on other aspects of their life). This is normally a leftover from childhood shame and guilt over deeds
In this way, we emotionally satisfy ourselves that we are of value because we can make others feel better, or make them smile, or give them something, whatever it is. It is a papering over of cracks though. In non-spiritual/healing circles, a common manifestation of this is 'people pleasing', but the root cause is the same simple thing.
Moonfeather hit the nail on head IMO when she mentioned vulnerability. The place of self-acceptance, which is the same place where giving and receiving flow freely, is a place of GREAT vulnerability and 'exposure'.
I think it was Chogyam Trumpa who said 'The heart of the warrior is so open that even the fluttering of a butterfly hurts him, yet still he stands'

PS While not everyone considers themselves 'warriors', the premise is the same.
