RE: Should mediums/readers charge a fee?

Hi seekingpeace,
No offence taken! This question comes up now and again and there are as many for it as against it. In my own experience when I first started giving Angel Card readings to family and friends I did not charge because I was 'practising'. BUT, then things started to take off and I had work colleagues and their friends asking for bookings and so Angel Card parties developed. It was then that I started to charge because it was taking me away from my family in the evenings and my time is just as important as anyone elses (you wouldn't expect a plumber to come out for free?).

Anyhow, that's my view, if readings start to take up time you would have spent getting a job or going to work then you need to put food on the table and petrol in the car so why not charge?

Love and light

Good question and like Reikiangel says, it pops up quite regularly on the boards...

I think it depends on each individual.

If you feel uncomfortable about charging, then you shouldn't. Or you should find out why you feel like that and then work on it. If that is what you want to do.

If you feel comfortable charging, then there is nothing wrong with it.

I don't see why people should find a reason why it is right or wrong to charge...

I think it is like every thing in an individual’s life. What is good for you is not necessarily good for someone else at a specific time in ones life... We all have different lessons to learn in this life…

RE: Should mediums/readers charge a fee?

Hello seekingpeace,

I agree with Reikiangel. When one is a new medium and is just beginning his/her ministry, charging for readings might not be something that he/she would do until the gift is more apparent and the medium is more confident.

I personally think that consulting a medium is like consulting any other professional. One should expect to pay a fee for a reading, just as if someone should expect to pay for a consultation with a solicitor or plumber. We have rent to pay and food to buy, and as Reikiangel says, many times we have to give up our family time and normal routines to give spiritual advice. How much to pay depends on whether the medium is a full-time practioner or not. If he/she is, then the fee will be higher.

I always recommend that a new client visit a medium that has been recommended by word-of-mouth.

Love,
Patsy.

Beyond mediumship, I'm often concerend at the whole commercialism of the New Age - therapies, workshops, cranks (IMO). It was not really commercial until it started creeping in during the 1980s. But I can see points of view both ways - just that many overdo it, and tho' revered are frankly in it 90% for the dosh.
