A few weeks ago my sister got married for the first time, this was a fairy-tale come true day for her that she had dreamed of since childhood.

On the roof of the church, perched a Red-tailed Hawk. The Hawk appeared on the roof as I was approaching the church to get my sister & myself ready for her wedding. It remained on the roof throughout the ceremony and then flew off near the end of the wedding reception.

My question is: What does a Red-tailed Hawk pearched on the roof of a church during a wedding ceremony mean?

Thank you in advance for any insight in this matter!

RE: Hawk as a Wedding Guest

Hi Winstrutter, Welcome to HP and the shamanism forum, this is a meaning for Hawk,

In Native American cultures the hawk represents a messenger. It often appears in our life when we need to pay attention to the subtle messages found in our surroundings and from those we come in contact with. As with all messages received it is important to recognize its underlying truth. Because their are so many varieties of hawk its messages vary and can affect all levels of our psyche.

One thing that all hawks have in common is the skill to move between the seen and unseen realms gracefully connecting both worlds together. Their acute vision compliments this ability and their discriminating nature keeps them out of harms way. The broader vision of the hawk allows them to see what the future holds. In man this symbolizes prophetic insight. If this medicine is underdeveloped a tendency towards over analyzing everything is common. In so doing, clear vision is lost. Those who hold this totem should remember to keep their analytical mind under control and not allow it to run wild.

The hawk has many foraging techniques. The most typical in their pursuit of prey is swiftly following the animal's efforts to escape. Once the hawk has secured the prey with its powerful talons, the bird dismembers it with its sharply pointed, strong beak. In man, this suggests that we can run but we cannot hid from our destiny. Sooner of later it will catch up with us.

The destiny of all humankind is to awaken from their spiritual amnesia and realign with the original intention of their soul. When the hawk flies into our life we will be asked to evaluate who we have become and rip out the threads of our self created illusions. This enables our inner truth to surface.

Hawk signifies union with Great Spirit. A bird of the heavens the hawk orchestrates the changes necessary for our spiritual growth. Having this totem can be bitter sweet. If we accept its presence in our life we will be asked to surrender anything that doesn't honor the integrity of all life. Be it an idea, a feeling or an action. Although hard work is involved the rewards the hawk offers us are great.

Hi Windstrutter

I think that the significance of the Hawk at your sisters wedding is important and as Hawkwind has kindly put up the meaning of Hawk it would seem that it is a messanger of some sort wither to you or your sister (only you can work taht bit out).

The best thing is to think about what the significance is to you (or your sister) and work with the Hawk from then to see what it's meaning is for you.

Just also like to mirror tigress and welcome you to the forum.

With love

RE: Hawk as a Wedding Guest

Thank you everyone!

Everyone who attended the wedding saw the Hawk pearched on the roof of the church, the wedding photographer even took its picture and included it in the wedding photos. I am not certain as to who the Hawk was there for and what message it was bringing.

I am a wildlife rehabilitator and an environmental educator, I have two non-releasable hawks I work closely with everyday. I rehabilitate and get to release many throughout the year. I learn from them constantly. I primarily work with birds, songbirds and raptors.

Last year I went to rescue an injured Hawk that had been hit by a car and found a Beagle puppy almost dead in a side ditch, I nursed her back to health and we have a spiritual connection.

Two years ago I rescued a juvinile American Bald Eagle and spent over a year providing it with very labor intensive rehabilitation, at one point it was deemed non-releasable but I persisted that it needed to return to the wild, and finally it passed all of its releasablity tests with flying colors. I released it back into the wild a year ago March. This was not only a spiritual blessing but also a life altering profound event. The Eagle, which I named Aren meaning "Eagle Ruler and Cheif of Peace" and I had a very close connection and he changed my life forever.

I feel as if I am pretty intune with nature and especially with animals. My intuition tells me the Hawk's message was for my sister, but she is not intune with nature, therefore I fear she fails to see its significance. I feel as if it is up to me to enlighten her about the Hawks message but I am having difficulty receiving the message I need to give her.

I hope this makes sense!!
Thank you,
WindStrutter

Hi WindStrutter, having a connection with the birds spirit is a lovely gift.....i can almost hear the Eagles call as it circle the sky to say thank you. Do you think the injured hawk you helped might have returned at the church?(that's if he servied).
I ask because my Blackbird friend i help when he was stuck in my house......comes to see me alot. He nearly pop in my back door again this morning. he got a funny looking tail feather.
My two brother who live in Devon UK when young helped a baby Crow and he stayed with them for years and would protect them from people he did not like.....then one day he just disapeared.

RE: Hawk as a Wedding Guest

I love my job, and yes it is very rewarding, I can't imagine doing anything else!

I doubt the Hawk at the church was one that I had rehabilitated. My sister lives at the opposite end of the state from me and I release animals close to home. It is unlikely that one of them would have travelled that great of a distance. My sister lives in Raleigh, the church was located in the city, it is rare to see a bird of prey in that type of setting.

I see many of the animals I have helped on a regular basis. Birds of Prey we band before releasing and they are fairly easy to recognize (although often binoculars are needed to see the bands). Songbirds I release in my yard and I see them daily, those that migrate tend to spend their first winter at my place, then once they begin migrating they return each spring.

Of the songbirds, I am connected closely to the Blue Jays, they stay year around and talk to me daily. they knock on my door and peck on the windows when the feeders are empty. Often they will follow me around the yard and at times will land on my shoulder or head and chatter. I have two non-releasable Blue Jays, and one of them "Lefty" is imprinted on me, he takes food right out of my mouth and mimicks sounds he hears daily, like the phone ringing.

As for the Eagles, they are extremely rare to see in my area. Yet I see them often. As far as I can determin there are only two pairs in my area and they appeared about 4 years ago and have been producing one to two offspring each summer since their arrival. The one I released, was returned to the wild in a protected area, I recieve regular reports of sightings, and always see him when I return to the Lake he was released at, or travel near the protected area. I see Eagles often and in very unlikely places. I believe the Eagle is my Spirit Guide.

As far as the Red-tailed Hawk on the church, I know it was not injured. I am convinced it came to relay a message. I have a strong feeling that the message he was delivering was intended for my sister and that it is my responsibility to interpret the message and deliver it to her.

My sister always dreamed of getting married and having children. Her fantasy was a fairy tale wedding, which she fulfilled when she had her wedding. My sister tends to be very self centered, and at times even very selfish, she rarely does things unless it serves her personally in some way. She is very religious, but at times can be very materialistic. Her wedding, a dream come true, is a very significant life event for her, she is hoping to get pregnant as soon as possible, a child would be another dream come true. I know the Hawk has an important message for her but she is not open to seeing the message it was bringing on her own.

I beilieve in the Great Spirit and I stay intune with Mother Earth and feel as if I have an obligation to serve as one of her guardians. I was adopted and so was my sister. My biological maternal grandmother was Native American, my maternal grandfather was Irish, my biological father was also Irish. If the information I have been provided about my biological family is correct then I am 1/4 Native American and 3/4 Irish. I have been denied my natural heritage and strive to reconnect with the Native American ways and beliefs of my grandmother's people. My sister's biological family was of Eouropean decent and she has no Native American bloodlines, and I feel as if this blocks her ability (along with her inability to have an open mind about the natural world) to recieve the message of the Hawk on her own.

I am desperately seeking the message the Hawk has for her so that she may recieve the blessing of the Hawk that came to her wedding. Any help in decifering the message is greatly apprechiated!!

Thank you,
WindStrutter

Hi WindStrutter, i believe that the Native American in some tribe could shapeshife, so maybe your ancester were trying to tell you they will watch your sister and protect her.....and maybe you have the ability to fly with the Spirit of the Hawk across states.
Im shore your sister has found great happyness. Not everyone are open to spiritual truths and messages......but as you reconnect with your natural heritage......then im shore you will be guided with keen sight.
Hawk....Hunter.....Awareness......Truth.
Church....Faith
Wedding....Union
Your story of how you help the animals is wonderful, your such a kind person helping god creature this way[sm=hug.gif]
