Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had any idea what this dream could mean. I woke up in the night in a start and had a feeling that something was on my chest. I felt like I couldn't push it off and the air felt very heavy on my chest. It felt and looked like a dark object, like a large rat or small cat and I was saying 'get off' according to my partner. I was completely terrified and managed to wake my baby at the same time who was screaming for a feed, which I gave him, still feeling totally fearful. It seemed so real and I can't get away from the feeling of the air being heavy and it being really difficult to move my hands through this. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

If this dream woke you it is indicative of a past truamatic experience and therefore I suggest you see you GP.

If this is the case (and I'm not sure it is) then if I go into my gp and just say this dream, I'm not sure she will think much of it?

If you have no knowledge of past trauma, then there's no problem. But what I'm saying is that this type of dream is symptomatic of past trauma. Obviously no GP will take anyone seriously they they just go and tell the doctor about a bad dream.

But if you went to your GP and told them about a traumatic experience and as a result you're having bad dreams and other life issues like panic attacks, then something can be done.

I'm not a GP and I can't diagnose, but I can read dreams.
