Hi, Yoga forum how exciting!!!!!!!!

Anyway enough of the hysteria, I would love to go on a yoga retreat somewhere exotic. I am certain they are really really expensive.

Has anyone been on an exotic retreat?

Where?

Was it really pricey?

Did it live up to it's promise?

Would you go again?

oooooooooooohhhhhhhh just the idea of it hhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmm

err sorry drifted off there.

Thanks

RE: Yoga retreats

I liked the look of Ibiza yoga

I have been going to ibiza for years - it has an amzing pull ,( the awful bits you see on TV are only about 5% of what the island is all about)

RE: Yoga retreats

Hi

If you wanted to try out an ashram experience without going all the way to India, you could try the Mandala Yoga Ashram in Wales. Check out their website [DLMURL] http://www.mandalayoga.co.uk [/DLMURL]

It isn't exactly exotic but you might like to try it closer to home to see if you like it before you jet off.

Have a great time, whereever you go!

RE: Yoga retreats

I have just been looking at the site who run all kinds of retreats including yoga.
It's situated near Urbino in the Le Marche region of Italy, verry beautiful area.
I won't be going there this, but very near to it (Bologna) in September.
Can't wait!!

RE: Yoga retreats

regarding retreats ... 'dhanakosha' is wonderful in the trossachs run by FWBO combines meditation with things like yoga. However @mandala yoga ashram' in south wales near brecon is run as an 'ashram' with high quality teaching and ashram life. I also run retreats in the Lake District .. although im not quite sure how much i can say without stepping into self advertsing. Perhaps .. if you are interested in yoga retreats you can mail me 'neil_pendlebury1960@yahoo.co.uk'. There is a retreat in late october combining @sivananda & kundalini yoga'. love Ishwara

RE: Yoga retreats

Interesting thread. Anyone know of any nice hotel in the south of england which has huge grounds i can go for a wander into to meditate or practice tai chi (but also has indoor facilities, perhaps a gym too, in case it rains)?

Thanks.

RE: Yoga retreats

this is a great thread - i just starting surfing the web today looking for good yoga holidays and retreats.

i'm keen on ibiza, however most of the places seem to offer astanga yoga - does anyone know of one which offers a less dynamic style ie. iyengar / sivananda style.

RE: Yoga retreats

Hi
re:

I stayed here beginning of January. Karen made me feel very welcome in her home. Helped myself to tea/coffee whenever I fancied one. Her fruit salad breakfast ios the best I've ever had. She is also trained in tissard massage, of which I had 4! You can stay with her or down on the beach if you like. Her husband takes the yoga class and I enjoyed them (when I managed to get my butt out of bed and go).

Where ever you decide to go, have a great time and don't for get to tell us about it.

RE: Yoga retreats

I'd also love to go on a yoga retreat holiday at some stage and some of these do look absolutely gorgeous.

My post is more of an observation than an opinion really.... nearly all the menus at the resorts are vegetarian only..... not everyone that practices yoga is non-meat eating 🙂

As I said, just an observation!

One of my clients has just been on a Yoga holiday in Corfu - boy am I jealous; it looks wonderful!!!

I'm not sure who ran the course but there is a link through this site:

By typing the name of the cottages in Corfu, into Google, it shows that they run other courses too.

RE: Yoga retreats

Went on an Astanga Vinysa(?) retreat in Tobago, (normally a hatha girl myself but good to try different styles now and again), if you really want to treat yourself. It was expensive but amazing. About 2 hours yoga in the morning and another 1 and half in the evening. It's on

hope you find somewhere

RE: Yoga retreats

Have been go on Ibiza yoga - found it okay - when I was there it was 3 hours of astanga v and they had really excellent teachers.....but I found it more a holiday with yoga than a yoga retreat...plus you can sort of sense the vibe of the island, which may not be everyone's cup of tea. I think, for me, it would have been a great first yoga holiday, but I think cos I've been on a few I wanted a more retreat with yoga. Beautiful island though

Hi everyone

Just scrolling thru this thread, trying to manifest the time and money to do one of these retreats. When I came to Allie's post (No. 17) I did a doubletake as I know Karen from Kovalam (Shantibhavan) and her massages are super. It's a small world, isn't it?

Hi Sunanda - so true it is a small world
Karen's massage were great, it was so nice to just relax with a massage and then go lie on the beach

RE: Yoga retreats

Hi Carol

If you want a 'serious' retreat rather than a holiday with some yoga the Mandala Ashram in Wales is said to be very good (not made it there myself yet but friends of mine that have been say it is wonderful) although you do need to remember it is an ashram not a holiday complex and I understand accommodation is quite basic. Think they are Satyananda style which is quite a spiritual approach (as opposed to a workout type).

Good luck in finding something anyway and hope you have a great time wherever you end up!

[link= http://www.mandalayoga.net/ ]http://www.mandalayoga.net/[/link]

They do sometimes run 'introduction to ashram life' weekends, as well as lots of other courses. I have met a couple of lovely people who did their teacher training at the Mandala Ashram. It is indeed in the Satyananda tradition, so very traditional. This particular approach seems to appear to a broad variety ofpeople, ages and abilities.Hope that's helpful.
