Hi there
Has anyone been to the negril yoga retreat in Jamaica?
I'm trying to find out what the area is like, if it's safe for a solo traveller, if you've been there did you get overly hassled on the beach etc?
Any thoughts would be really appreciated!
Hi Bluemagpie,
I've not been to Jamaica nor to the Yoga Retreat you mention, but a friend of mine was really hassled when she went to Jamaica, so much so that she decided this time around to go to Barbados instead.
There's a great yoga retreat on Tobago - an island which I consider fairly safe, I have a friend who lives there and she hasn't had any problems there, in fact her first visit to the island was to go the yoga retreat - it's run by a BWY teacher and if you want any details pm me.
Luv Binah

Hi,
I have been to Jamaica lots of times (i even got married there!) and we are going back tagain on Saturday for 2 weeks. The people are lovely and friendly. We did get hassled in the market but only because they were all wanting our business. Walking on the beach we have never been bothered. Occassionally there will be someone selling thier crafts but if you politely say no, they will not bother you. 2 years ago we went to Negril and the beach is fantastic. 7 miles long with the most amazing sunsets. This time we are going back to Montego bay. I would recommend it. Good luck with whatever choice you make.

I've been to Negril although not to the yoga centre. I would agree with Lisa: I got hassled in the market but not on the beach (and the beach is worth seeing). The food was very reasonably priced. I enjoyed the holiday (the only thing I disliked was the long flight !!)

Thanks everyone for your comments.
I came back from Jamaica a few weeks ago. The Negril Yoga centre was unfortunately not what it said on the box. There was no body there at all when we arrived after a long, delayed flight, there was no security either. Finally, after being eaten alive waiting for a staff member to arrive, we were put into a room, (one of their best) only to find more mosquitos, and an unclean, noisy room close to the road. It wasn't my idea of a relaxing oasis.
We found some gorgeous places, that cost less in price, for the rest of the week, so it pays to shop around, and I managed to even find yoga classes in another hotel.
Jamaica's great. We didn't get hassled at all really. People are so friendly, it was so relaxing - gosh I wish I was still there!
Anyway, thanks everyone for your comments.
