Hello,
I am interested in beginning one to one lessons in pilates - as recommended by a physio for help with my singing. Having looked around the web I am confused as to what I need at this stage? Gyrotonics? Matwork? Machines? and are there any major differences between the schools of training - Body Control Pilates, Pilates Body Awareness, Pilates Foundation etc?
I work in central London (Oxford circus) and live in Brixton so any recommendations would be useful (that dont break the bank!)
Thanks
RE: New and confused
Hi
First of all I would ask around friends to see if any of them are doing one to one Pilates. The best way to find a good instructor is by word of mouth. You will probably find that the instructor will advise you as to the best way to start and carry on with your Pilates progamme.
With my own(new to Pilates) clients I find that starting with the Matwork is the best as it less intimidating than going straight on to the machines. But of course this will depend on your instructor.
There will be some differences between the schools of training, but all should be using the same Pilates technique. But as some instructors come from different back grounds ie sports, dancing, gym you will find that they may approach the class from a different angle, all stlyes are fine so long as it is taught precisely and that you really do understand what you are doing and why. Don't be afraid to ask questions!
Good Luck with the singing.

For Body Control Pilates, you are ideally placed - you've got the Gloucester Road studio, and the Cromwell Road studio. Ask for an instructor who's experienced with singers. Look them up on
