Hi,
Does anyone know anything about running packets of pills together (21 day packets) eg, taking two or three packets concurrently to reduce number of periods during the year?
Seen some information about 3 monthly packets being routinely given in France but can't find out any more..
Thanks
😉
i used to do this,( Loestrin20 i was on) for me it took a few months for any bleeding to stop before it became effective and the advice i was given by my doctor ( they got suspicious when i was requesting repeat prescriptions more often!) was not to make a habit of continual pill taking purely just to give the body a break.:)
PS: i've only just noticed you were asking to reduce the amount of periods, not stop them altogether- 😮 i think you would be best asking your doctor for advice.:)

Hi Stardust
I used to do this, with the recommendation of a doctor, precisely to reduce my number of periods as you say you'd like to. I was having a lot of pain with mine, for which no cause could be found (I think now it was stress related). They called it "tri-cycling" coz I took 3 packets one after the other before i took a break. I experienced no problems with this course of action at the time, and was continually assured it was safe to do so.
For me, my periods almost disappeared, which was a relief at the time, but now, I'm been off the pill completely for a year and they still haven't returned to a regular cycle. Who knows whether tri-cycling my pills may have played a part?
Id reiterate what Calla Lilly said and speak to your own Dr about it. In my experience it works at the time, but you might want to consider the longer-term effects of continued use of such a system.

I used to run my pil packets together for precisely this reason and I had no problems. I didn't discuss it with my GP, though that's because I don't find him very approachable.
About two years ago I went to my local family planning clinic (which is nurse-led) for my pills instead and they are much friendlier and more helpful than my GP. I'm now on the progestogen-only pill Cerazette which has stopped my periods completely, so I'm happy. I'm told it doesn't have that effect on everyone though, some women find their periods go haywire on it.

I would definately go to speak to your doctor first before doing this.
But isnt there an injection you can get which does stop your periods??
Thanks to you all for your replies - I have tried discussing this with my GP but just got a blank look, no medical opinion though..
I'll try my local family planning clinic as that sounds promising - am wary of the long term effects as in my mid-thirties and not sure whether or not I'll be trying for children..
Thanks again to you all,
love & light
