Hi,

I recently started taking Microgynon and its the first time I've used the pill so I'm looking to see if other women have had the same experience as me!

The first couple of days of taking it were fine then I started to get very bad cramps, much worse than when I didn't use the pill. I'm also a little prone to constipation during my period but since I've started this pill I've needed to visit the chemist who gave me something to 'help me along' to put it politely! I feel worn out & down & a little nauseated at times - while I expected to feel a little crap while the pill messes with my hormones I don't know that I quite expected this. Is this normal?

I'm on holiday at the moment, not in the UK and every surgery we've approached here has asked me to speak with my own doctor first. I have tried that - I phoned time after time yesterday but couldn't get to speak to my GP even when I've explained I'm calling long distance, that it's about medication & important or that I don't mind waiting. Gah!

I'm pretty much convinced in my own head that I don't want to take this pill again but I'm also wondering how much of my experience might be normal? Do things settle down?

Any advice?

Thanks.

Hi, it's not very nice to feel rubbish on holiday but unless your symptoms are serious, it might be best to wait until you get home to sort it out. You don't say how long exactly you've taken the pill for but I think it's fair to say that different ones suit different people and although you might settle down on it, you could certainly go back to your gp and let him know what's happened so far and he'll decide whether you should stick with it for a bit or change it.
Being involved in complementary medicine, it always surpises me how often we forget the seriousness of the contraceptive pill. I'm not saying that no-one should take it, but it does mess with your hormones in an unnatural way, and therefore can have side effects and they can take a bit of time to get used to. Having said that, you may find one that suits you well- it might just take a bit of time. HTH Hom

Hello,

Every woman reacts very differently to each pill... I have been on mycrogynon for years and years without any side effects. At one point, I tried a lower dose pill (can't remember the name) but I became reeeaaally angry and reeaaally moody! 😀 So i quickly gave up...
A lot of women have to try a few before they find the one that's right fpr them!

I was also on this pil for years and found altho my periods where every light the cramps were unreal. I also went completely off sex altho that seems to happen to me with all pills for some reason.
I agree maybe stay on it if u can while you are on holiday so you are safe but see your own doctor as soon as you get back. maybe even ring again a few days before you come and book an appt so you get it as soon as you come home
