I think I may be perimenopausal and have been trying to manage it holisticallly-Magnesium/Black Cohosh?Good Multivitimum/being positive. BUT Ifeel awful-not helped by chrinic throat problems. So -I've made an appointment with th Doc - not for 8 month throat problem - but for above.
Last time I 'opened up' was told we all have our bad days -which was crap.
I am finding this really scary. Don't want to take HRT - but what tests should I be asking for/what can I do I never was bothered by PMT,etc, but my moods are all over the place now.
Y x

Hi Y

You do seem to be going through it at the moment and there is sure to be a reason. I can't offer you specific advice I'm afraid, except to say that a nutritional therapist should be able to make a difference for you.

You definitely shouldn't be suffering bleeding problems and it should be investigated by the doctor - and s/he should take on board your mood swings and other symptoms in the same context. If s/he says you have to live with it then ask for a second opinion. There are tests they will do to see what is happening - ask to include a thyroid test too, just in case. Take a copy of any test results with you to your nutrition consultation - you have a right to keep a copy yourself.

The throat problems indicate poor immune function - try zinc losenges to suck. Gargle with a dissolved aspirin or TCP if you can stand the taste!

Love and Light

Acupunctureo help has now been clearly demonstrated to help with heat flushes associated with menopausal changes.
http://www.acupuncture.org.uk/the-news/press-releases/1308--british-acupuncture-council-media-alert-acupuncture-found-to-help-reduce-hot-flushes.html

Often when flushing begins to resolve, sleep and evening-thirst might improve too, as they are all related in Chinese medicine terms. Try to find an acupuncturist that is TCM trained- this is the system that is taught and practiced in China today, based on older understandings of the body. Other systems exist, but always ask your therapist where they trained, and for how many hours. Physios, osteopaths and sports medicine practitioners sometimes do weekend courses with as little as 16 hours of training. They get my "hmmmm" of disapproval, as this often misrepresents the full abilities of acupunture. BacC members have a minimum of degree training.

I found acupuncture the best for hot flushes, without doubt I would highly recommend it 🙂

H&B do zinc losenges with vitamin C. You can also buy on line. Remember the total zinc for a 24 hour period should be no more than 100mg, and if you take it long-term then 1mg copper is needed per 10mg zinc to keep these minerals in balance.

Hope you start to feel better soon.
