Hi Ladies,
I am going to have a Laparoscopy and a Novasure ablation at the end of August. I know it is a long way off, but........I am really anxious about it. They are going to do it all under a general anaesthetic, but I have never had an operation, and have a big fear of hospitals too! (Hell, I`m a wimp!)
Has anyone else had this? Any information will be so greatly appreciated. 🙂

Barb x

Hi Barb,

I haven't had this procedure done, so couldn't comment on it at all.

But I too have a fear of hospitals and so totally understand your anxiety. You can ask your GP for some valium to help you sleep the night before and also to calm the nerves on the day. Also try long slow deep breathing exercises as I've found that to be calming.

Have you also tried EFT? Its worth trying. It worked for me and helped get me through 3 operations last year.

Good luck with the procedure, be brave.

Hi Meadowsweet!
Thanks for your advice. Don`t mean to be thick, but what is EFT?

EFT is emotional freedom technique. There are a few threads about it on here from people who know a lot more about it than I do. Its about tapping the meridian points (hope I got that right, someone please correct me if I'm wrong), similar to acupuncture points, to bring about positive change.

Has been great for my needle phobia. I still don't like them, but it has helped me appreciate where my phobia has come from and to let go/forgive the situation that led me to my phobia, it allows me to understand that sometimes needles are necessary and I'm better able to cope with having blood taken and it certainly helped towards the operations I had, because I was really scared.

My surgery is all booked for 31st August. I have had my pre-op assessment and the nurse was absolutley lovely, putting my mind at ease and answering any questions that I had. I have asked for a pre-med and to be 1st or 2nd on the list to go to theatre, as I am VERY anxious and if I see all the other ladies going for their surgery first, I will be dressed and away! So, hopefully that will all be fine. What I have got into my mind is, that I will wake up during my surgery and not be able to communicate with anyone.
HELP!!!

Hi It might be worth calling the hospital and speaking to the nurse who you had your assesment with. I am sure she would be able to reasure you that you will not wake up during the surgery. I have had lots of general anaesthetics and have not had any problems. I also have a fear of hospitals which is so bad on one appointment I phoned into the hospital from the car park as I was too scared to go in 🙂 They sent a nurse out to remove me from my car and get me into the hospital lol 🙂 The staff are all used to dealing with people who are really scared and anxious and I am sure they will do all they can to make things as comfortable for you as possible.

Hi Barb

Sorry to hear you are still so worried. There is still time to have some EFT to help you with your worries. It really is a simple, quick (usually) and very effective way to deal with any form of anxiety, and it can certainly make your path easier!

Have a look here, here and here to read how it has helped other people in similar situations and then go [DLMURL="http://www.aamet.org/search/filter-members/eft-advanced-practitioners.html"]here[/DLMURL] to find a practitioner near you, or you can look up someone here on HP. It is very easy to do over the phone too when you know what the tapping points are - there's a useful chart here and more downloads available, but you will need the guidance of a practitioner.

This should make all the difference 🙂

I shall probably have to do something similar myself in due course as my Gynae wants to operate - and I'm not so sure :(!!!
