Hi everyone,
I'm just looking for some advice on PMT. It's geting to the point where i'm dreading that 'time of month', I'm so different! i feel like i'm not being myself 1 week before+during. I get very over-sensitive and it affects my life/relationships dramatically. I have tried Agnus Castus, Evening Primrose oil, milk thistle etc..they help a bit. I've had a coil in for 10 years and i'm considering taking the pill that stops periods fullstop. can anyone advise me on this?

thanks, efia

Hi Efia

Why not try a some alternative therapies such as acupuncture and meditation and maybe a change of diet as well that has soya in to help with hormone imbalance. Acupuncture can be very effective with hormone problems so maybe worth a go.

Hi Efia

I dont think the pill that you take continuously is available in the UK yet, although it is due to be released some time this year. It IS available in the USA though, if that is where you are?

At the moment you can get a pill which you take for 3 months at a time without a break, or alternatively you can run packets of any combined pill together so you dont get a withdrawal bleed/associated PMT.

From what I have heard, the pill can be really helpful in controlling bad PMT, so it is definitely worth talking to your GP about whether you are suitable. although do bear in mind that the pill can also cause side effects similiar to the symptoms you are experiencing!

Another idea is to consider taking st johns wort if your symptoms are mainly emotional, but it can affect the contraceptive effects of the pill if you are also taking that, something to bear in mind if you dont want an unplanned pregnancy!
