Just wondered as i have UTI at the moment and am going through loads of cranberrie juice if dried cranberries r good....they are lovely!!
Just feeling rather low at the moment as had colds and doctor says i have UTI as run down with cold, not sleeping properly.
The thing is my hubby and i dont really have sex that often cause of work and kids but every time we do i seem to get an infection like streptococcus or now uti...we had sex the day b4 i got it.
Ive had it for 2 weeks now and with cold simptons , well think cold not sure if the UTI is making me have these simptons now.
Cranberry juice is fine but once the infection gets to the kidneys it is contraindicated.
I wouldn't recommend eating dried cranberries as what you need is liquid, loads of it, and fresh cranberries would be better.
Other things I found worked were:
* Remember to wipe yourself from front to back after using the loo. *This is most important for prevention of infection*
* Wash yourself before having sex and afterwards, but don't use strong soap. Use Dove or Simple, or something hypo-allergenic.
* Also you might get your partner to wash beforehand.
* Get both of you checked out for diabetes. This is how we found my first husband had diabetes: he actually had thrush and went to the docs cos he thought I'd given him something (cheeky swine - no wonder I left him!).
* Make sure you observe strict hygiene rules when having sex. If you need me to tell you what they are PM me and I'll oblige!
* Try and make your urine as alkali as possible. I don't recommend eating bicarb of soda, just stir a teaspoon into a glass of cranberry juice and drink it down. If you think that tastes yuk, just get some mist pot cit from the chemist and try that! Both of them work.
* Pee before and after sex. The before bit helps to ensure there's no undue pressure on the lower urinary tract and the after helps to wash away any nasties.
* And finally, if you find you're getting colds etc, get some Echinacea tablets from Holland and Barrett (or similar place) and take them every day all winter. I'm convinced it is what is finally cured me of my recurrent cystitis after about 15 years.
UTIs are a pain! I agree with Chris's advice.
As far as using cranberry - most commercial cranberry is chock-full of sugar and diluted. Check labels for the purest type. It has been shown to stop the bacteria sticking to the linings of bladder and urethra.
I would also try taking high doses of vitamin C with zinc to support your immune system.
Alkalising your body means cutting down on meat and sugary foods and consuming lots of vegetables with a little fruit. You can look at Mercola.com and put UTI infections into the search engine - lots of info there.
Good luck

i have found that taking probiotics has vastly reduced my development of UTIs (i used to get them all of the time!) considering UTIs are caused by bad bacteria, it makes sense to top up your levels of good bacteria. A small UK company that i like and trust is called Dtecta Probiotics. OptiBac is definately one to consider.
thanks for that
Ive just got some high doses of vitamin C but ive been taking probiotics drinks for 2 years every day....been well till now but got me this time!
