Hi
As some of you know, I am myself waiting to see a gynae for a diagnosis, but today my best friend had told me that after having being recalled for another smear test, the abnormal cells have been confirmed, and she needs a biopsy and another procedure (can't remember the name).
I was only sayying to my hubbie the other day, that I'd rather find out that there's something wrong with me, than I would find something's wrong with her. I know I could cope better if I was ill, than knowing she could be.
I've tried to allay her fears today, but her sister in law went through the exact same thing and was diagnosed with cancer, so my best friend isn't feeling positive about her own diagnosis.
What can I do or say for her at this time? And words of wisdom please?

I wish I had some wonderful words of wisdom to give too you ~ there are many people on here much better at doing that than me. Just be there for her let her cry when she needs too, make her laugh when things are getting hard, give hugs and love freely....all of which I am sure you do anyway.

Possibly the other procedure she is to have is a colposcopy. Abnormal cells don't necessarily mean cancer. Most often they are pre-cancerous, which sounds bad, but many of us carry pre-cancerous cells in our body without even knowing and often they don't develop any further.
If this is the case, she's in a good position as there are various procedures to remove these and then the medics will keep a close eye on her.

Yes I agree, try not to worry. I have friends that have had the same news. One had a simple procedure to remove the cells and has had normal smears for the past 6 years. Another has just had her second baby and no problems ever since
