Hi, i was wondering if anyone could help me?I am 25 years old and my hair is falling out, i know its not alopecia, cos its not comin out in chunks just in the shower, on my bed, and hairbrush, theres loads, more than usual and enough to worry!I used to have such a thick head of hair when i was younger and my mother thinks its from all the hair dye but for the last few years ive just been using semi-permanents and only once every 6 months or so!I have a feeling it mite be something to do with my liver, cos a friend that is a nurse said he could see it in my eyes that i could have a little liver damage!I used to do drugs but not anymore, i drink but only one or two nites out every two weeks and i am going to weight watchers and have lost about 1stone and a half in the last year!I heard milk thistle mite help to cleanse my liver?I have also been taking silicea for a while but i dont think its doing anything!Im not great at taking tablets, i think its just the psychologcal thing(choke choke) so if i could take something in liquid form to help or foods to eat, i would!Im really getting paranoid about my lack of hair!Any info would be grateful!

RE: Thinning hair at 25yrs old!Help!

The most common reason for hairloss in young women is iron deficiency. So try to get that sorted out.

If that doesn't work (taking iron supplements for several months) you could try Fenugreek capsules. You can get them from any health food shop and they cost around £8 for a bottle of 60-90. Take two a day (one in the morning and one in the evening), then when the bottle ends stop for a week before starting the next bottle - it's important to have that break. That should do the trick. You'll need to do that for several months... I'd suggest 6 months to a year.

Another thing you can do is to greatly reduce the amount of sugar you have in your diet.

If you have loads of money you could buy Nourkrin... but they cost £50 for a month's work of tablets. If the fenugreek doesn't work then that definitely will. I've looked into the ingredients of Nourkrin to see if I can work out a cheaper way to get the same effects... but I'm afraid that the key ingredient appears to be the Marine compound... and God only knows what that is!

Good luck, and remember that if you try the fenugreek capsules to have a break between bottles. Because fenugreek works on your hormones you can become sensitised to it, and it stops working... so those short breaks mean that your body responds to it optimally.

Hi Lisa

I don't have any solutions for you, but go and check things over with your GP. It may be as simple as N has said, iron deficiency, but the GP can diagnose and direct you.

I can totally see why you are so nervous, you are so young to be experiencing thinning. Well, it's good that you are proactive and is going to do somehting about it. I would suggest using rogaine, 'cuz it's pretty much the only FDA approved treatment for thinning besides propecia and propecia has too much side effects. But you have to be patient 'cuz it's not gonna work right away, give it a few month's time. good luck.

If you go down the Rogaine route be aware that if you stop using it your hair will resume falling out (they tell you that on their website). My feeling is that it is much better to treat the cause of the problem. However it is good to know all the options, so many thanks to puppy88love for posting up that info.

RE: Thinning hair at 25yrs old!Help!

Hello Lisa

Firstly let me say that I understand what you're going through as I have been through the same thing a couple of years ago.

There are lots of thing that can cause thinning hair but one of the most common is STRESS. Believe me I know this through experience and this was definitely the case with me.Usually you'll loose the hair if you've just come out of the stress period and everything is ok again. What happens is that the hair follicle constricts the root and then when you come out of the stress period the follicle relaxes and the hair comes out. Did you notice that before it started coming out that your scalp felt 'tender'. This is a sign that it could be stress.

You said that you've done some drugs before. Have you had a stressful time of it? Could this be the reason?

It's tempting, I know, to try all sorts of pills, potions and lotions to help the condition but I think, and my specialist said it too, that it just makes you more stressed and wound up 'cause chances are that they won't work.

I saw a specialist privately and he said that it definitely was not the hair dye I'd been using, it doesn't make any difference.

It is called alopecia there are different types. I had alopecia areata which is when it comes out in patches and also I had massive thinning as well just like you describe.

I wish I could say something to make you feel better. I can only say that within six monthsof me realising myhair had started coming out ithad grown back again and (fingers crossed) I've had no trouble since.

Good idea to go to the doctors as he/she will probably do some blood tests to get an idea of whats going on. Let us know what happens and good luck x

Lisa I know I'm not a doctor but from what you've said I'm pretty sure the condition has been brought on by stress. (I do feel like a bit of an authority on this having been there and done that if you know what I mean.) If it is stressthen at least when things get better,,and I hope they do, then there's a good chance it will just grow back again.

If it makes you feel better then try the nourkrin but my consultant said it makes absolutely no difference what you do it won't grow back until it's ready and you'll never know if it's the nourkrin or whether it just came back on it's own.

I must be pretty hard to relax at the moment but that's the best thing to do. It may be a better idea to spend the money on a relaxing therapy like massage or reflexology or something similiar that will help you chill out.

Good Luck x

susan

Hy
I had also the same problem like you.
The reason for that was in my case big stress on colledge. When the holidays came everything changed..
You probably just have to live more relaxed life 😀

hiya im a product advisor and i feel for you as our hair is everything to us ladies and it really is hard sometimes to find a definate cause for hair loss ,stress does seem to be the cause for you ,could it also be hormonal?i came off contraceptive pill and had the same thing, the thing we advise is to treat the underlying problem which if u think its stress have yout thought about a herbal remidy to combat your stress levels?a good one might be st jons wort which calms the mind ,anziety depression however isnt suitable if your on cotraceptive pill or blood thinning tablets there are also multivitamins and minerals especially for hair skin and nails which are cheaper than norkrin and often on offer at your local health shop ,with my hair loss i took evening primrose oil and after 2 months my hair got thicker and all my other symptoms have disappeared too!hair loss can be caused also by thyroid deficency so have the check up and blood tests first to check ur ok there, hope this is of some help pm me any time if you wish take care and hope your hair gets better soon xxdeb
