Hi all. Mary here. Do you know how to remove stretchmarks on the tummy? Got it from my last pregnancy. They're really not dark but I'm just trying my luck. You might know how to help me. Thanks!

Hi there

Welcome to HP! There's lots of advice from many angles from people here. My information is mainly nutritional - to do with giving your body the right building blocks in the form of nutrients to heal itself.

Nutrition guru Patrick Holford says stretch marks are caused by shortage of zinc in the diet. The skin needs a range of vitamins and minerals to function fully. I would suggest
* vitamin C and zinc (from supermarket or chemist) to make into a fruit drink, plus
* natural vitamin E (read the label - it must say D-alpha tocopherol not the DL- form which is artificial and does not work the same - get this from a health food store.
* Plus a vitamin B complex or a quality multivitamin/ multimineral from a healthfood shop high in B vits - ask advice. Unfortunately cheap formulas are made of cheap nutrients which are not well absorbed.
This way you will definitely get the most important nutrients. Take as recommended on the labels. The vitamins E and C work as a team, and so do all the B vitamins.
Take one of the vitamin E capsules, prick it with a pin and squeeze out about a quarter of it and mix in your hand with the cream of your choice and rub onto the stretch marks. Save the capsule for use on subsequent applications.
This regime should make a difference and give you a pick-me-up. You could add another vital ingredient - the
* omega-3 and -6 oils (flaxseed oil, or fish oil and starflower oil), something which I now realise I was short of after my 3rd, and it took me 2-3 years to recover.

Sorry, that's rather a lot to take on board, but I'm sure it will pay dividends.

Even better, eat plenty of fruit and veg, nuts and ground seeds, wholefoods - not processed, avoid fizzy drinks, sugar and anything made of white flour, eat oily fish at least twice a week, cut down on fried foods and hydrogenated fats, etc, etc!

Wishing you the best of health 🙂

Caroline

The Food Hospital

Hi all. Mary here. Do you know how to remove stretchmarks on the tummy? Got it from my last pregnancy. They're really not dark but I'm just trying my luck. You might know how to help me. Thanks!

Hi,

I am currently working on a brand new television series for Channel 4 called ‘The Food Hospital’ (working title). The idea of the programme is to explore the possible health benefits of everyday foods in targeting a wide range of medical conditions and symptoms. I am hoping this will be of interest to you.

There’s plenty of evidence to say that our health and our diet are closely linked and current scientific research shows that certain foods can be used to treat some illnesses and / or their symptoms.

Patients attending ‘The Food Hospital’ will be advised by our team of medical professionals, including a GP, a specialist medical Consultant and a leading Dietitian. Using evidence-based, cutting-edge scientific research, the team will prescribe specific diets for the treatment of the patients’ conditions or symptoms.

The team will welcome patients with serious illnesses and everyday ailments alike. The treatment that the Food Hospital will offer is intended to be followed in conjunction with the patient’s existing medical regime, and the Food Hospital medical team will endeavour to work collaboratively with the patient’s current medical advisors.

We are currently looking to speak to people who might be interested in knowing more about ‘The Food Hospital’. This could be people who are living with a condition which affects their life, or people who have recently started to experience symptoms they wish to address.

Please don't hesitate in getting in touch: @betty.co.uk">edd.buckley@betty.co.uk

With many thanks,
Edd Buckley

You can make some DIY stretchmark scrub at home. Lemon juice can be used as an scrub. Lemon is natural bleach, it will lighten your stretch marks. Put some lemon juice on your tummy and leave it for 15-20 minutes. You can also use some olive oil and sugar.

I have used Bio Oil and it does work but you need to keep applying it for quite some time.

I was told that rubbing coffee grinds on stretchmarks will help to tighten the skin, due to the caffeine content.
I did this for a while and saw a bit of improvement on my legs, but its rather messy and a cream/oil is probably more convenient.
