Well, I just wanted to know if there were people on here who did not wash their hair.

It's been 5 days since I washed mine.

I heard it was a lot better for your hair if you just left it rather than using all those nasty chems.

Any stories or advice? 🙂

RE: No hair washing

Does your hair not feel really greasy? I cannot go even a day without washing my hair as i hate the feeling of greasyness. It also starts to stink after a few days of not washing and looks really unkempt (IMO). I also suffer from spots, and if my hair is not washed every day, the oils from my head migrate towards my forehead, and i end up with a break out along my hairline. I also feel that, being a holistic therapist, my hair needs tolook clean and grease free and smell fresh.

I sat behind a girl on the bus the other day, and her hair looked as if it had not been washed for a week........it looked like she had poured a bottle of oil over her head, and it really smelled!!!! [:'(]

If you are not happy with using conventional shampoos which contain chemicals, there are plenty of brands which manufacture toiletries which contain only natural ingredients. Or, even better, why don't you make your own? Do a google search for some natural shampoo recepies. 😀

RE: No hair washing

Thanks, I am aware of alternative shampoos, I normally use Green People.

My hair does look greasy at the moment but it does not seem to smell. I have tied my hair back and it does itch a little but I reckon another week or so and there will be an improvement in the look of it.

Initially in doing this experiment I have heard that the hair looks (and possibly) smells greasy and horrid but after a couple of weeks, the natural oils get to work and keeps the hair fresh and clean. The hair does naturally clean itself if left long enough.Apparently the natural oils keep it looking and smelling nice, but not artificially nice as we are all used to.

This experiment does not work for everyone but I am interested in doing it as there is a lady who has not washed her hair for 10 years and it looked really good. I can get away with it as I don't work in the public eye but at least I can say I have give it a good go and perhaps lend my experiences to people.

I've heard that not washing hair is really beneficial to it in so many ways. I've never washed mine more than once/twice a week. I did try leaving it for quite some weeks at one stage! It did look nice and healthy but I couldn't stand the smell!

RE: No hair washing

A couple of friends of my kids left their hair "au naturel" and to my mind, it looks dreadful and it stinks. One of my friends who is a hair dresser attended to one of the girl's hair when she got fed up with it after 6 months. As she washed it whole clumps fell out together, there were snotty bits in it and it was filthy and smelly. She nearly threw up.
Everymammal - and bird to that matter - has some kind of preening or self-cleansing mechanism, and they also preen each other. Dometic animals spend ages cleaning themselves. We don't and I think that's why we wash in soap and water. It makes sense to me.

Sharon.

RE: No hair washing

Well, it does not work for everyone and I am sorry that your friend had such a bad experience.

I left my 9 days before I washed it. It did not smell but did look awful even when I tried to tie it back and make it look nice.I brushed my hair at least once every day, it did get knotty quicker than usual. When I was in the shower I ran warm water over my hair to help the dirt wash out.

Did your friend ever wash water over their hair/ brush it everyday? I noticed that I had to "maintain" my hair a lot more when doing this experiment.

I now plan to wash my hair once a week now rather than every two days because even washing it once a week is better than washing it every day.

RE: No hair washing

I'm sure once a week will be fine. It's when it's left ungroomed on a more or less permanent basis that it's minging.

There is a natural shampoo and conditioner in Holland and Barrett.
