:confused:I noticed a couple of months ago that i had an identical horizontal ridge on both of my big toe nails, and now i have another about a centimetre below it. I have not suffered any trauma to my feet, no ill health as far as i know, no significant blood loss etc. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated x
This can happen for a variety of reason, to the best of my limited knowledge. 😉
Have you taken any medication in recent months?
Have you been going through stressful periods at all?
Have you changed your diet at all?
I believe such ridges are caused when there has been some changes in your routine.

As its only on your big toe nails, I suspicious of damage to the nail bed from a particular pair of shoes/ footwear.
Big toe nails grow very slowly - and will take about 6 monthss to grow out - so have you done something twice in the last few months that could have damaged them - like wearing and standing/exercising for a period that could have caused this damage? - such as trainers that are too short or shoes that catch your nail as you walk?
I had thought of that, however i spend most of my time barefoot or in open toed sandals  my trainers and closed in shoes are a perfect fit, and cause no discomfort at all. I know that if i were my client, i would have advised on seeing a chiropodist, or similar. However, being my own feet, i have been able to rule out alot of causes. That said, i'm not sure if i should be concerned - if that makes sense. My hubby has a similar ridge on his toe nails - but he did suffer a major blood loss due to a road accident - where as i don't seem to have a logical explanation x Thankyou for takin the time to answer xx
I think fingernail analysis is more common but for interest it might be worth having a look at that and then seeing if the corresponding nail on the foot shows anything ....
Try googling fingernail analysis and looking at more than one piece of info (and you might find pictures or references to feet in those), but here's one for fingernails .....

I've had toenails "issues" before and had success with tea tree oil applied two or three times a day for several months. It takes a long time for the nail to grow out and you'll need to keep up with whatever topical treatments your using. I'm not a fan of internal prescription medications for this because of side effects.
