Do you mean hyperemesis gravidarum - so called morning sickness, but much worse? Dreadful thing to have to cope with - poor her!

Ginger tea - sliced fresh ginger in a mug of boiling water is said to help. Or allowed to cool and drink iced throughout the day. Make sure she keeps hydrated - even to the point of sucking ice cubes. Let her eat whatever she can keep down or what she fancies.

Wearing travel bands on the wrists may help with the nausea - or tapping the points, see here. Vitamin B6 is also thought to help - but I'd take that as part of a B-complex with hiigh B6 content, because they all work together - the taste may not be acceptable though.

The doctor will probably have to prescribe antiemetics - and she will need close monitoring by both Dr and midwife.

There's some info

Rest, and rreduce stress are vital. Help from other family members/friends with cores and childcare if at all possible.

I have treated many patients with this condition - I feel like it's on the rise in pregnancy?!

I've found through experience that there is often an emotional element to it and more often than not the patient is already a bit depleted before conceiving and the pregnancy really takes it out of them.

Generally prescribed herbal medicine is very helpful for this condition. Herbs given often include those which help the Liver and calm the nervous system.

If she wants treatment it would be best if she consulted a fully qualified herbalist who has undertaken a degree in Herbal Medicine as it's safer for mother and baby if a proper consultation is undertaken (I would never recommend that a patient self-prescribes when she's pregnant).

Best wishes,

Jodie
