well.......... today I go into my gyn's office to talk about my fertility meds and she hands me a wordly blow to life.

She tells me that back in may 2000, my primary care phys. had ordered a series of tests that I never knew I was having done. I thought the test I was having was for a diabetes blood test and also routine blood work. well........ come to find out today, 5 years late I was told that I am positive for Hep B. WTF, why was I not told of this 5 years ago? the ball was seriously dropped and you can best believe that there will be some action taken. (LEGAL)

I am so upset, just think I have been LIVING my life for the last 5 years with Hep B. I have been married for 11 years now. I have no children and I am trying to concieve now. This effects everything now, I may have passed this to my husband, I can pass this to the newborn when born. I don't know where I got it from, But my new Primary care Phsy. wants me to wait until the new tests results to tell the husband about the illness. I have to accept the fact that I may have contracted this from my husband or even from my many tattoo artist or piercers, or one of my surgeries, but I dont have to accept the fact that I have had this for 5 years and no one has bothered to tell me until now.

so lost in thought, hmmm

Hi Sonshyne (cool name!). I can't imagine what you must be feeling right now, to have the rug pulled out from you in such a manner... Rest assured that support will be given here if you need it, so don't be held back by 'it's only me' thoughts - there are many good people here who can help, if only by listening.

Thoughts are with you and yours...

exactly and it hasnt affected you adversely or you have been ill with it...so thats a good thing right and you have been saved 5 years of worry.

Having said that, of course you should have been told, you are not pregnant yet so dont worry about that one yet and also you say you may have got this from your partner so who is to say you gave it to him.....and besides that he may be clear, wait and see what the test result bring, in the meantime try not to worry, you have had hep B for a little while and it has not affected you adversely and so at this point there is no reason to think it will be any different....

In terms of legal action, obviously thats your call, but if you have been healthy for this long and no one else is involved what does it achieve, certainly though make sure the hospital investigate and tighten up the proceedures.....

but I dont have to accept the fact that I have had this for 5 years and no one has bothered to tell me until now.

in retrospect there is nothing you can do about this as it will not change the fact that you were not told, as I said you obviously should have been but by not accepting it you will store up anger within yourself and the only person that can hurt is you.....

I am currently awaiting a pcr test to test for hep B as one of the staff at the hospital where i had my second child was found to have it....
