RE: thyroxine amnesia!!!

I just alwayshad a choking feeling, and I'm sure there was a lot of other things going on that I didn't notice but others did.......just horrible...........hate medications!

But theres times when you just have to do the right thing.......and I was always forgetting to take them, and couldn't remember if I had taken them. So I bought a medication organiser as well, no trouble now.

Thyroxine Amnesia

Hi, I also forget to take my thyroxine it happens all the time. I get so annoyed with myself when I realise I have forgotten it again. I get really bad mood swings when I have not taken mine sometimes I forget for 2 to 3 days, I can become really nasty, I just seem to hate every one espesh my partner, I give him lots of verbal abuse, I really don't like it. Also my eye sight goes a little blurry and I can see little flashing dots in front of my eyes. and writing to look at seems quite blurry. There are times where I cannot sleep and times when I cannot stop crying. I run out over the weekend once I forgot to get a repeat prescription, it was horrible I just spaced out and did nothing. I try my hardest now to remember, don't let it take over things can get really horrid.

Guilty! Forget to take the damn things, forget to get the repeat prescription (have gone for two weeks without tablets before now!) and boy do I pay for it - feeling like I've got a huge lump in my throat or like I'm being strangled; weight goes up; feel sluggish; depression and his buddy paranoia move in; feels like I'm walking through quicksand; ache in joints & muscles; my legs & feet are all twitchy, especially at night in bed; a frog in a sandpaper suit sets up home in my throat and so on. Added to all this I'm menopausal so the hot flushes and other associated symptoms kick in. Oh joy!

Hi Avastar
You may find this site useful - http://health.learninginfo.org/function-thyroid-gland.htm - and there are some extra links from the page with lots more info on it.

You should be able to call your medical practice and ask to speak to one of the nurses who could explain about your condition too.

Hi Meurighj

. "Added to all this I'm menopausal so the hot flushes and other associated symptoms kick in. Oh joy"!

Poor you, i so know how you feel so something that worked for me (i have underactive thyroid to) is the magnet in your knickes:eek: 😀 😀
Yes i laughed at first to but i have been using if for the last month and its the best 20 quid i have spent in a long time ladycare its called from boots.
i had a radiacal hysterectomy 3 yrs ago so went on hrt omg what hell it has been i couldnt get the dose rights or deal with the symptoms if not on hrt i was really pulling my hair out (and i put on 3stone!!!) Well my magnet is a god send the hot flushes are managable, the mood swings have really improved i haven't taken any hrt for the whole month and have lost nearly 10ibs (have been eft'in as well tho)
it might be worth thinking about
good luck 😀

Thanks Pollypips - I've got one of those :). I used to wear it for period pain, but heard that they can be used for help with the menopause, so I dug it out and yes, it works!! The weight hasn't dropped, but the frequency of the hot flushes has, so I can also recommend Ladycare.

If you miss a dose of thyroxine (T4) you will not feel the effects immediately as it takes about a week for the levels to drop in your blood. Some hard and fast rules are: Take it on an empty stomach with WATER, as tea coffee and milk can stop T4 being absorbed in the gut. Do not eat for a minimum of 30 minis preferably an hour after taking it. Always have a 4 hour gap minimum either side of Iron and calcium supplements as these totally block T4, iron will bind to the thyroxine rendering it useless. Always remember to remind your GP you are on T4 when they are writing a prescription for any other meds; there are a number of drugs that can interact and your GP might not remember at that particular moment you take T4. Always talk to your chemist before taking any over the counter drugs and supplements.

here is an NHS link about eating and taking your meds http://www.nhs.uk/chq/pages/861.aspx

also I found serenity progesterone helped with hot flushes

Just to add a note here.. I have been taking Barley grass powder.. my youngest put me on to it.. Tastes Yukky so add some undiluted juice to it... start with half a teaspoon and increase gradually over the next 2 weeks.. I have found it controls my eating and suddenly managed to get into my size 14 jeans.. bit snug but amazed.. with results.. please do a search for information but would like to hear from others who have used this product..
