RE: thyroxine amnesia!!!
You must have forgotten a lot of times before the symptoms return.
Hi, if ever I have forgotten to take mine I have had all the symptoms again, like mood swings, tiredness, cold or too hot, palpitations oh I hate palpitations. You really must drill it into yourself to take your meds,it is very important, you aren't playing with thyroid you know, it does affect so many organs etc, this is another reason we get our prescriptions free not just cos thyroxin is cheap.
Get some notes stuck on the medicine cabinet door TAKE YA PILLS ! TURN THE NOTE OVER WHEN YOU HAVE TAKEN THEM then turn it back round before you go to bed. stick one on the wardrobe door HAVE YOU TAKEN YOUR PILLS? Stick another on the door you use to leave the house, OIY YOU, WHAT ABOUT YOUR PILLS ! I know it seems like a hassle but it is better than not taking your meds. You will eventually start to do it through habit and I just thought I ant teken mine yet [&:]so my kettles bum is as black as your frying pans ! lol
Seriously though get into habit of being a pill popper.
Tip...Put the date on the packet when you openedand started your pills, this way if you can't think if you took them or not you can go back and check, but DO NOT TAKE ANY MORE THAN THE ONE DOSE even if you missed a couple a days, just restart and make a note again of the date so you don't get muddled. If you accidently take too many contact your GP straight away. ;)lyn

RE: thyroxine amnesia!!!
Mmmm, you know quite a lot of people like us have this medical problem !!!!!
I am normally asked by my hubby if I have forgotten to take my tablets as I turn into a raving MAD and horrible person to boot!
Have now moved the pack down into the kitchen and put it in the cupboard next to the coffee.
Just started my horrible protein diet again this morning as I have successfully managed to pile on 10 kilos over the last month. Don't you just hate this thyroid problem.
My dear friend that also does Homeopathy is going to help me out with a detox to help the thyroid work more efficiently. Can't wait for her to come back from England.
Love

RE: thyroxine amnesia!!!
Just a few symptoms I have and have had, weight gain, the brittle ridged soft nails, the hair thinning and breaking, the loss of outer edge of eyebrows, rough dry skin, tendonitus, carpel tunnel syndrome, forgetfulness, lack of concentration, enthusiasm then it drops off, sleep problems as in can't sleep then do nothing but sleep, intollerant to heat (summer kills me) intollerant to cold, I am either stripped to vest top or wrapped up like an eskimo, low back pain,
slow speach, slurred at times, reflux, I will probably end up saying "me too" if anyone else puts anything different to me,because I forget silly things. Oh, the mood swings with me was a dead give away that there was something not quite right, I have always been a placid soul, never moody, never argued the toss, the monthlies passed with great ease no one ever knew as I never had the rages with that,so when I became a nasty snarling Cougar type woman my hub said "hey-up this isn't the lass I married",so along with a change in personality and weight gain I went the Doctors,so if you are reading this and you think you may have a thyroid disorder go and ask for a blood test.;)lyn
RE: thyroxine amnesia!!!
Hi Lyn
What sort of time were you sleeping? I dont seem to be able to go to sleep until 3 or 4 am and then sleep about 12 hours.
I have a lump feeling in my throat near my adams apple. (which hopefully you wont have:))
Did you have heart things going on? Sometimes I can stand up and my heart jumps from 60 bpm to feeling like it wants to jump out of my chest.
RE: thyroxine amnesia!!!
hi lyn,
i dont really notice any change in my mood i dont think?!
at least over xmas new yr, i was pretty dam low anyway, so i cant be sure, weight gain, nope, appetite gone too, and even when i am eating i am a skinny wee soul, and always have been. doc keeps checkin my levels as they reckon it look slike i am on way too much for my size. and they are aware of the occaisional lapse in taking them, but i was doing fine up til recently.
although, i did notice my skin was pretty dry this morning. i'm not sleeping great at all, but thats due to tormenting thoughts!
i dont think these 'symptoms' are of forgetting to take my tabs for a while, i think they are moreto do with what is happening in m life at present.

RE: thyroxine amnesia!!!
Hi Dunedin, well put it this way, I would go to bed tired then sleep wouldn't come, I'd get up drink water,go back to bed, eventually after a while I would sleep, but it was very light sleep, I'd maybe get two hours light sleep then be wide awake again. To get up in the morning was hard then, because I was still tired as my sleep wasn't restfull. I MUST sleep with legs out of the bed as they are so hot and flipping buzzy it drives me mad, they tend to cool and then eventually one leg would be allowed to get covered, ( sounds as though I bully my legs lol ) I'd benodding off sat having a morning drink, I really could have slept on a bed of nails. I have been known to go back to bed for 6 more hours after being in bed for9 hours, I am actually allergic to being tired, this presents itself with flu symptoms, I sneeze, the nose turns into a river, my eyes water and ache,my body aches too, I have to go to bed this is when a sleeping tablet get's taken ,and I sleep right through, wake without the flu symptoms, it used to amaze my hubby but now he's used to it, he just says get to bed !
I haven't got the lumpy feeling in my throat, do you have a Goitre / Swan neck is what it was called, does your neck look thick in front of your adams apple area?
The heart palpitations are a symptom I never did like, sometime it was so bad my heart was beating out of my throat !! But that is ok now. Try and bring relaxation into your life, meditation will help this, slow down yourself, don't rush around, pace everything you do.

RE: thyroxine amnesia!!!
I am by nature a very calm person so to go from calm to tornado in 0-60secs is for me wayyyyyyyyy off, and not me at all. It is usually the least of little things that can rouse that She Devil, I would say ASK your nearest and dearset to be truthfull and tell you if they think there has been any change for the worse in your personality. Ask if they notice anything about you that looks different that maybe you can't see for yourself.
I get those low days too, depression and anger go hand in glove I think with Thyroid probs, we often take it as "what is happening in our lives right now" but we are also paranoid or as Epinay calls it Dillusional, we can exagerate the issue's around us,we are our own worst enemies, those TORMENTING thoughts. Try some meditation to calm your thoughts and quiet your mind, you can stop your self chewingthe fat in your own headwhichcultivates a worsesituation than you really have. If you want to pm you can, I'm willing to listen to you.
What made your Doctor test your thyroid in the first place? ;)lyn
RE: thyroxine amnesia!!!
Very similar symptoms to you.
I 'know' something isn't quite right. I am convinced that it is my thyroid/endocrine system.
Hot/cold flushes. Night sweats, constipation, sore legs/joints. I feel like I am walking through the moors in hound of the baskervilles all day.
Can't sleep till 3:00am if ucky an wake up at Midday at the earliest with a lead hat on.
But blood tests seem normal.

RE: thyroxine amnesia!!!
One of the ways I have found to drink more water is to add 1/4 teaspoon natural seas salt. (non iodised) to a pint (600mls) of water. I have a Reverse Osmosis filter and putting the salt into the glass is amazing to see all the oxygen bubbles being released.
It has helped with my taste and sense of smell after a week or so. I guess it has added a good taste. And I have written a post about it in the pets/animals forum.
RE: thyroxine amnesia!!!
Hi angelfeather
I have to take two Thyroxine tablets a day along with others and I found that a £1.00 weekly pill organiser keeps me on track no problem. Once a week I pop all the pills for each day into the holders and then when I get up I take half of them and before I go to sleep I take the rest of them. If the day is empty - I have taken all I need to. If the day is half empty - I have taken the AM but not the PM.
With this taking tablets malarky being an everyday occurrence, I was always saying "HaveI taken my tablets today?" as each day blends into the next! Now I ammore organised and don't seem to forget as much as I used to! Mind you, when the routine is distrupted (like over Christmas) I can go to take some pills on Wednesday and find that I haven't taken any since Sunday!!!
I work away quite a bit and just grabbing the pill organiser to take with me is much easier than remembering each pack of different tablets! Try one and see if that helps at all?
