I had a couple of clients with this problem (when I was working as a practitioner), and I used health kinesiology with them to really good effect

RE: Sjogrens syndrome
I have Sjogren's. What I find is that if you have one autoimmune disorder, you probably have several. I've also been diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome, arthritis, acid reflux and altho my tests turn out "normal", I know I have low, or hypothyroidism.
Let's see... I always must have a bottle of water with me, often can't see very well due to dry eyes, it hurts to walk, move, lift, stand, sit and I gain weight or can't lose it even though I've changed my diet and work out. I'm freezing when others are not, don't sleep well, have fuzzy thinking problems, and my appetite is uncontrollable and I cannot ignore it. I often get exhausted after what used to be moderate exertion and will have to rest for days to recover. My stomach burns and sometimes I get such bowel pain I am doubled over in agony. I have a low normal temperature, low blood pressure, and low heart rate. My gums were bleeding and receding -- my hair is falling out, my skin is dry and changing -- I feel like I'm falling apart!
I'm not sure if this is the kind of discussion you were thinking of... but it's the truth; )
So what do I do to manage all of this? I try to work out 3 to 5 times a week (weights, elliptical, bike, treadmill, stretching, use a stablization ball every session for core strength) for 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours a session. I used to follow an Atkins type diet for the last 5 years, now I am trying simply a healthier one with more fruit, raw veggies/salads, less dairy, lower fat, leaner proteins and occasional bad stuff. No more on-purpose sugar i.e. sweets; (
I try to avoid processed kinds of foods, but am not perfect at any of it. Bread or wheat in general don't agree with me (headaches) so I quit drinking beer and don't eat a lot of bread. I have been taking probiotics for almost a year now, take vitamins, and started using bio-identical progesterone.
How's it working? Well -- marginally at best. Raw fruits and veggies KILL ME. My poor stomach and bowels! Although I try to avoid taking medicines (I think they might help symptoms, but are poisionous to organs) I am forced to take anti-gas meds, antacids and sometimes ibuprophen. I use olive oil and lemon juice on my salads OWIE! I just don't need more acid in my stomach on top of the gas the veggies produce. I'm miserable trying to be healthier.
I think the progesterone is helping me sleep better and my gums have improved too apparently. The probiotics? I can't tell that they've done anything... but I'm still taking them.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head... I believe everything is tied in together with one's endocrine system -- if something is outta whack, it affects your entire balance. I also believe my Sjogren's was brought on by either trauma, environmental elements OR antibiotics. I believe it is a symptom of things gone wrong. I was diagnosed after being sick for nearly 6 months and being on courses of antibiotics for what turned out to be mono at the age of 40. Before that I'd been in car accidents and had oral and injections of cortisone... hmmm. One of the worst things I ever put into my body!
any thoughts?

Hi AW [sm=hug.gif]
I am sorry sweety- I had no idea. I knew you had some health problems, but did not know the extent of them.
How are you doing? Are the crystals helping at all? I'll send you some reiki tonight when I get home from the gym. And at least you are not smoking anymore 😉
Love and light
Oli
RE: Sjogrens syndrome
ohsweetie, bless you. I never thought about people who "knew me" reading this. Oh yes, it is all true. I don't talk about it though. I identify with you so much when I read your stuff on dieting and the like. How can we win??? It feels hard, eh? I wrote this Sjogren's thing when I was in one of my 'trying to eat better modes', now -- forget it. Anything goes right now as I can't keep on with these diet thingys, and changing my lifestyle is not working either.
Let's see, the crystals at least give me hope. I think they are working, really I do. You're right though, at least I don't smoke; ) I'm glad you're sticking to it, I know how hard it is. Thanks for your empathy, really xxxooo

RE: Sjogrens syndrome
Hi this is my maiden message to the forum. I was looking through the discussions and came across this. Thought I'd add my bit...especially to American Woman...you certainly have all the symptoms of an endocrine disorder. I am a nutritional therapist and while I specialise in mental health I see a lot of people with such disorders- v v common.
Nutrition and the right supplements can go a long way to help.
NHS tests are very narrow, they only measure a couple of hormones for the thyroid and so hypothyroidism is often undetected. Private lab tests are better although you have to pay for them. However you can do a simple home test called the Barnes Temperature test. Basically use a mercury thermometer (more accurate) shake it down to 35 C at least, put it by your bedside and when you wake up, don't move about or get out of bed, put thermometer in your armpit for 10 minutes and take reading. Women who are menstruating do this on day 2-9 of your period (get 7 consecutive readings so you can see a pattern). If your body temp isnot at least36.5 C then your thyroid is under functioning.
Also v often the adrenal glands are implicated - these are glands that govern your stress response. People who suffer from stress and fatigue are commonly adrenally compromised. The adrenals and thyroid compensate for each other so they are often affected together.
Hypothyroid people need exercise to raise their metabolism but if your adrenals are fatigued, you need to be careful not to do too intensive exercise.
Hypothyroidism can also be an autoimmune condition which only a private lab test can pick up.
Nutrition can help with autoimmune conditions as well.
so if you can, do seek out a good nutritional therapist . you can look for one through the British Association for Nutritional Therapy [link= http://www.bant.org.uk ]www.bant.org.uk[/link] or [link= http://www.nutripeople.co.uk ]www.nutripeople.co.uk[/link]or www.ion.ac.uk.
All the best.
