Hello to all,

I am about to start the long, incremental process of reducing my venlafaxine medication, I have my GPs support in doing so. I am currently taking 150mg per day of the slow release capsules, For the first month I will be having 2 days of 150mg then the 3 rd day 75mg.

I realise that this medication is notoriously difficult to reduce, owing to its horrendous withdrawal syndrome and side effects, but I am determined to do this, and will do so over a period of 6-7 months.

My questions to you all are, has anyone else gone through a similar process, anyone currently or in the past been on this medication? words of ecouragement, useful websites, books or links.

Many thanks
x

Hi Sarahlouise

I have gone through exactly the same thing. Although the process coming off the venlafaxine was not nice, I felt very nauseous when doses were reduced, neither was it a horrendous experience. My advice would be not to look into all the potential possibilities - just respect your own experience and listen to your own body and keep the obviously very positive outlook you have now.

You may find that you need to lengthen your withdrawl period depending on how your body reacts but this is not a bad thing at all. Take your time and allow yourself to adjust mentally physically and emotionally in a gradual way. I was on 225mg a day and it took nearly 2 years to be become completely drug free which i have now been for 6 years hurrah!

Good luck and lots of love on your journey.

Thank you, Sunbeam, It is good to hear that you are now drug free 🙂 I realise that reduction will have to be done slowly and in regular consultation with my GP.

Did you take any supplements or flower remedies etc to help you through the process?

Hi Sarahlouise

I have no personal experience of helping anyone in this situation but would like to suggest you try some support from EFT. [DLMURL="http://www.emofree.com/Addictions/addictions-success-rourke.htm"]This link[/DLMURL] may be helpful for you to see how it may work. It is from the main EFT website - many reports to browse. I would suggest you find an EFT practitioner near you, or it can be done with directions over the phone - see Directory here on HP (Masha specialises in this) or www.aamet.org I am sure it can help get you through the process more easily.

Wishing you all the best

Caroline
