I've just turned 30 and since the age of 8 have always found it difficult to get a nice, deep, full nights sleep. I just don't understand why. I have tried Lavender, baths before bed, herbal sleeping remedy's, milky drinks, accupressure stickers that you stick to your wrists, alcohol (I know this doesn't work, but I was desparate), moving my bed to face north, meditation (I just got too fidgety), sticking to a proper bedtime and waking time but over all nothing seems to work. I am such a light sleeper and wake up at the slightest noise.
I am so exhausted sometimes and sometimes the only way I can sleep is to go without sleep for so many days and get so tierd that I cry myself to sleep. I am just unable to turn my brain off and I have tried most things. Is this doing me long term damage, because someone said that not everyone actually needs 8 hours sleep a night.

Sometimes you just want to be accidently knocked out - just to get some rest!!!!

RE: I can't get no sleep

Hi

I know it seems a bit drastic but maybe you should trying going to your doctor, he may prescribe you with sleeping tablets. I have taken them in the past but what I do is just take them when I need to instead of taking them all the time. I find that this can help to get you back into a sleep pattern as often I think that if you miss one nites sleep it just knocks your whole pattern out and and means that you cant sleep nite after nite.

Another thing I try is thinking of something I like to do, my one is spending a day on my own where I get up in the morning have a relaxing bath with candles and then spend a long time getting ready, I then prepare myself a really nice picnic and then drive to the countryside with my dog and lay out a rug and read my book in the sun for a while etc etc. You have to think of everything you do in great detail, I have never got to the end yet as I usually fall asleep.

Hope this helps
M

HI Divinedancer - have a look at tapping - www.emofree.com, and also in the Mind Therapies forum here.

RE: I can't get no sleep

Hi Divine dancer,

As mentioned by mmmpml, it might be worth a chat with your doctor.

Is there any stress in your life at the moment. Have a long hard think about this. When I was going through a bad time in my marriage - I was getting absolutely no sleep for night after night, this went on for around a year and I was exhauste. At the time, I thought my marriage was OK, but looking back, things weren't right and my mind was trying to figure it all out and the only time it got was at bedtime.

If there are any problems, you may need to look at sorting them out before you get some normal sleep patterns returning. It sounds like you a naturally a light sleeper anyway.

Jade.

PS. I know it's really hard but try not to worry about it too much - it makes it worse.

RE: I can't get no sleep

Divine dancer...

Hi 🙂

heh, When we moved house last year i started feeling a bit ill as well as bad sleep in my new room.
The room is long but narrow.

I had an intuitional hunch that is might be something to do with the shape of the room. I was laying across it instead of along it.

I somehow suspected that i should be sleeping lengthways in the room because this is the way a church is built and it channels energy better, much like a magnet north/south.

im not shure the way our house is positioned exactly... but i think i face east or north east...mabe north. actualy just off north.

Anyways as soon as i moved the bed i was fine.

I do belive now in lay-lines and power places along the land.

I once was working in plymouth and at the house of an elderly woman and her brother.. they were very, very old. but seemed in perfect health.

I asked the old lady if she was into anything like herbs or yoga or any other health/spiritual practise. She said no not really... but i belive in lay lines..i position my bed to them.

Well ..that was enough evidence for me.

I myself seem to stay up thinking a lot...but i consider it more contemplation or meditation.
I like to smoke my tobacco now in bed.. and although its said to help one stay awake..i find it a good tool for opening but calming the inspiritatiomal channels.

drinnking tea and coffee is deffinately no good.....
so it good to watch how much we consume during a whole day.

I now have to get up early for college. i seem enthusiastic and wake/alert in a morning... and quite fresh. i go to bed about 10.30 sometimes even now but still its about 12-1 till i can fall asleep.

I do use this time constructively though i feel mabe if i could get to sleep earlier i may have more energy through the day.

there are also other activities that can sap the energy and i think we need to conserve as much as possible.

I also hear digesting food uses a lot of energy..... so late-night snacks are a no-no.
they just provide energy - keep us awake.

Again, this is just what ive experienced...
im shure everyone has unique factors and attributes to their sleeping routine.

but we still have a lot of similaritys too.

😉

Divine dancer,

Have you thought about reflexology?

Apparently it's very good for insomnia.
