Hello

I need to offload because I am feeling a bit flat at the moment and I'm not sure why. Possible reasons include tiredness (small children up in the night for weeks), PMT, parents having recently returned home to Spain following a 7 week trip here, frustration surrounding therapies, employment oppurtunities, finances etc. I should mention I am a single parent and my children are 4 and 2. One starts school in Sept but I cannot afford to send the other one to preschool until January when he gets 15 paid hours.

Well I guess that sums up pretty well why I might be feeling flat! I used to be really into spirituality and law of attraction stuff, but lately I feel I have no time and energy for anything and it's getting to me. I am notoriously impatient, I want to do everything right now! I hate stressing about how I can make self-employment work. I want to do something worthwhile and have so many ideas, but no real direction or sense of how any of it will afford me and the kids a half decent lifestyle.

Just want to get past this mental block around earning money and being successful. As a teenager I was felt clueless and controlled as if I was a little girl, and this has always stopped me believing that I can be an adult and carve out a successful career for myself. Before I even get started, I find reasons not to contine! What if, what if, what if.....arghhhhh! I just want to DO something and stick with it but I feel I am setting myself up for another big fall.

How do you all cope with mental blocks or self-doubt? xx

Dear Agme

My impression from your very busy busy post is that first and foremost you need to recharge your batteries. I feel that you need to find a routine whereby you can relax, get enough sleep, and find some time to think about yourself and your needs. I think that once you have centred yourself away from the very many demands you have that you will create a little space - and then the answers will appear to you.

In the meantime I would hope that you are able to really pay attention to keeping a wholesome diet. I worry that will all your many demands that you risk burn-out.

Well done on all that you are doing, and that you still wish to find the right future for yourself. I have no doubt that you'll find your answers.

Ava x

Hello

Sorry to hear that you are feeling stuck. Being a mum is a very hard and demanding job. As ava you need some time for yourself. I always find writing things down helps. I have got lots of self help books over the years. I have found the secret which is all about attracting things and positive thinking easy said than done.

I really hope you manage to get back on track

Take care

Hello Agme,

I can relate to what you have written, so much so that I could have written it myself a couple of years ago (minus the children, I don't have any), I could never stick with anything and each time it was for two reasons the first was I wanted it all now, now, now and the second is because I would think about reasons to fail and 'what if's' before I even begun, I now realise I was like that because I was meant to be like that, I wasn't meant to do anything with the many things I began to study then dropped out of, instead I was meant to learn, to grow (emotionally) and to heal from issues in my past so that when the thing(s) came along that I was meant to be doing I could do them well, now I have found what I am supposed to be doing (counselling and EFT, along with a couple of other things) I don't mind talking my time over them, I want to learn and be the best I can, I feel chilled about the fact that some things take time.
In the meantime, be a little kinder to yourself, your spirituality has not deserted you, you have deserted it because you are tired, stressed and worried, I hope you have some support. EFT is an excellent way forward if you look on www.aamet.org there are detailed instructions on how to get started, it really is the easiest thing to learn even for a total beginner.

Love

Rebecca x

Hello, this is a challenging time for you. Don't worry, it won't last for ever. As the children grow older, things will change for you as well as for them.
Perhaps you need to take a little time out to consider your own direction at the moment. Being self employed and doing something 'worthwhile' might be something for the future, rather than right now. There might be other ways for you to earn money?
It's hard to hold onto our ideals, when we're dealing with harsh practicalities like lack of sleep and money. This might be a time in your life when you need to just hang on in there, deal with immediate issues in fairly mundane ways- not give up on your ambitions but know that they will be achieved when the time's right.
I know some people will think this is a defeatist attitude but I do believe that 'mental blocks' and 'self doubt' arise for good reason and I'm not surprised that this is your experience at the moment when you have so much to contend with. There is no need to put yourself under so much pressure. You have your whole life ahead of you still. HTH Hom

Thankyou all so much, your kind and patient words have made me feel a little calmer and accepting of my current situation. I am trying to think longterm instead - and trust that some things will happen when the time is naturally right rather than forced by me!

I suppose that until I make a success of whatever I choose, I will always be left wondering if I have changed from the person who never stuck at things. Time will tell I guess!

Thanks again x

Hi Agme, sorry to hear things are not going so well at the moment for you 🙁
You are doing so well with juggling home and family dont do yourself down, being a mum to those little ones is THE most imporant and wothwhile 'job' in the world and so very underrated in this country!!
It may be that you need to wait a little while until the children are a little older before your idea's come to fuition so use the time wisely.. hone your plans the how why's and wherfores of establishing a successful buisness. Is there perhaps any training, extending course, evening classess that would enhance this buisness? (And that while a single parent you might get help with)? it doesn't have to something heavy like a degree in metaphsics a local evening class just because you fancy it, that is interesting to you, stimulating, and gives you a bit of life outside the children.
take this time to help yourself, work on your issues, identify them, deal with them (eft?) make plans... perhaps explore different aspect of your spitituality.try affimations, angels whatever appeals, reach out to your famly and friends let them help you during this difficult period of your life. Most of all... be kind to yourself acept that it's ok to have a hard time sometimes! we all do 🙂
Ps have you tried magnsium ok for pmt i found it really helped me, look at your diet and ditch any junk that might be there, rest when the children rest, who cares if you go to bed at 8pm sometimes so do i :)x
big gentle hugs ((((0)))) xx

Hi Agme,

Sorry to hear how you're feeling! I've felt the same before (in a different situation), and it's tough...

Lately, I've really been getting into NLP (neuro linguistic programming). I have had problems in the past with motivation and the tendency to quit too early, and I'm changing all that at the moment. NLP is nothing magical... I just use it as a framework to understand how to change myself, and my behaviours. It works, but at the end of the day, it's on you.

One thing that I like to remind myself of is that it's on me to succeed. I can spend all day every day complaining about all the things that make me fail, and making excuse after excuse. But it helps to remember that at the end of the day, it's me that has to change. If I want to go somewhere or be someone, then I'm the one that has to make that happen. No one else will do it for me.

As for quitting too early, I remind myself that most people quit, and that's why most people are average. I can be average. Average is easy. But if I really want to succeed, that at some point, I've gotta buckle down, and smash through whatever barriers stand in my way. Sure, I get down, and it's not always smooth sailing. But those down periods and where I've learnt my best lessons. Though not always enjoyable, they are certainly rewarding.

Good luck and I hope some of this helps 🙂
