Hiya Everyone

This is the first time I have ever read or posted on this board, and I have being using HP for a few years now. Was reading about Thrush on the Womens Health board and wondered if there was a Men's Health board and voila there is. Thank you.

Anyhow the problem is, my hubby was giving Penicillan last week to treat Laryingitis. So when we got home I showed him where the Canestan cream is for Thrush, I said, everytime the Doc gives me antibiotics, I get Thrush, so he might just get it also.

Lo and behold he comes running to me last night with willy in hand crying, "OMG look at the end of it, it is glowing like a beacon"

I went into the bathroom and handed him the Canasten cream. Just wondered if he had used the cream at the same time as the penicillan, would it have prevented it from happening? Now he has the cream, will he need to see a Doctor for any other medication?

Love Angel x

annnnyywaayy, back to seriousness! i think the cream should be enough to clear up your hubbys thrush , if he's still got the symptons or gets worse in say, 5-7 days then its best if he goes back to the doctors .. i just hope your hubby dosen't go running in to the docs like he did with you!!

warm wishes- calla lily x

RE: Thrush

Poor hubby! The reason for the thrush is because the antibiotics kill off the good bacteria in the body as well as the bad and thrush just loves that. Many people think that thrush is an external problem but it start WITHIN and works its way out. So for future reference taking Bifodophilous when prescribed antibiotics is a good idea - I've also heard Colloidal silver is good to apply to affected thrush areas too.

Hiya Ladies

Thanks for the replys, I was begining to get embaressed about posting this message becase no one was replying. lol

Hubby will not go to the Docs with it, he says it will be just his luck to get the lady doc. (Been to the Doc 3 times with a groin strain and ech time he gets the young lady doc. lol)

Anyhow it is clearing up now thankfully, but I am on an antibiotic now, so I guess it is only a matter of time before it hits me.

I was wondering if one of the yoghurty drinks would help.....ie, actimel or something?

Love Angel x

RE: Thrush

There's a recent post in Women's Health that's very relevant. Check it out.

RE: Thrush

Angel the amount of friendly bacteria in those yoghurty drinks is beyond ridiculous - get some bifidophilous, trust me 😉 Also Golden seal and echinacea together are good for treating thrush.

RE: Thrush

Thanks everyone for the advice I really appreciate it. Saves popping to see the Doctor now.

Just one question though, where do I buy bifidophilous and what is it exactly?

RE: Thrush

you can get it in any good health food shop and it reestablishes the right balance of gut bacteria. you can also Yeo Valley natural live yoghurt (eating and application!) which is absolutely delicious. might want to avoid antibiotics for anything not life threatening in future. echinacea is a natural antibiotic and antiviral, as are lavender oil & tea tree oil. save the big guns for when you really need them.

RE: Thrush

I don't think he shouldn't have used the cream in the first place. It wouldn't work as prevention (i suppose) but it doesn't necessarily mean that he would have developed yeast infection at all. Yeast usually occurs after prolonged antibiotic use but not necessarily.
