Hi All,
First off, i would like like to say what a helpful and informative place this is :).
Ok. I am having pain around the shoulder area. The pain is located round the back of my shoulder i have put a mark on a diagram as its quite hard to explain. [link= http://www.phonepranks.co.uk/musclefigure_back.jp g" target="_blank">

The pain is not there unless i make a certain movement, If i push my shoulder down i get the pain, nothing else causes it, well maybe just a little when i push my neck down, but not much.
I have had the pain now about 3 months, i think the pain started after i had a tattoo on my fore arm, as i was sat in a very uncomfortable position for 2 hours +.
Does anyone have any idea as to what this could be, and advice on what to do next.
RE: Pain around the shoulder area.
Hi Leeroy,
I would say that the pain is almost certainly muscular, and that massage and / or aromatherapy would both work extremely well for this, to relax the muscle at a deep level.
Essential Oils that I would use are 1 drop basil or marjoram for the muscle and 1 drop cypress for the circulation, applied directly to the muscle in a small amount (5ml) of carrier oil such as grapeseed or jojoba. I would then apply1 drop of peppermint to drive the previous oils that much deeper into the muscle.
Personally I would only ever use therapeutic grade organic oils.
Hope this helps.

Hi Leeroy
its possible you have one or more muscles in spasm after having heldyour arm awkwardlywhilst getting tatood.
As suggested above, massageshould help.Focussing on the rotator cuff muscles (teres minor, teres major, andinfraspinatus) and lower trapezius, latissimus dorsi.
See a sports masseur who specializes in triggerpoint work if possible.

I only happened across your posting by accident. I had a tattoo in the place you marked out as having the pain in,last year, I was lying on a bench for 2 and a half hours. Like you, I had a pain in my shoulder (and back), and wondered what it was. Icame to the conclusionthat the long period of aggravation by the tattoo needle and pressure on the muscle was to blame. I do yoga and every time I went into 'fish' posture it was the worst, I felt I would crack. The muscular ache did evetually subside (about 2 months).
Two hours plus, is a long time for your muscle to take a pounding from the tattoo gun. I'd say fair bet, that is what has caused the pain, it just sounds too simalar to what i went through.
Needless (no pun inteneded)to say, I can't wit to get my next tattoo.
